Post racist moments from movies.
Is that first clip Eddie Cantor? What movie is that? The Mickey Roney, Breakfast at Tiffany's clip is a classic. it even spawned copycats.
My favourite Rooney clip is 'Babes on Broadway', where him a Judy Garland need a nice, wholesome way to raise money or the school dance, so they decide to put on a good ol' fashioned minstrel show.
But these have to be the two most unhinged blackface bits, from old musicals.
The funny part is, both were motivated by the liberal beliefs of the stars/dancers; The Fred Astaire clip is him doing a tribute to his long-time dance trainer, (black) Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson, in an era where Robinson would never get a leading role in a major movie like that (in 'Swing Time', 1937).
It's the same as with "racist" cartoons of the 30's and 40's, like 'Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarves', or WB's old character Bosko the Talk-ink Kid (in my pfp). Modern libs just see "OMG, racist!!!" But up til the mid/late 50's, black characters who weren't small bit-parts, in anything made for mainstream audiences, just didn't exist. A lot of this stuff was done by the liberals of the era, doing the 30's/40's version of "Black Representation"; Putting black charcacters in central roles, and exposing white audiences to black jazz musicians, for the first time ever, 20 to 30 years before it would happen in major release, live-action movies, in the late 50's and early 60's.
