Is it just me, or does it seem like most game studios in Canada and Europe are little more than elaborate schemes to siphon money out of their governments and taxpayers? Take games like Dustborn or Goodbye Volcano High.

They scream "funded by grants" more than "built to sell."

In America, the Modern Warfare franchise was sponsored by the United States military in part. Their goal was to make the military look bad-ass and damn it they succeeded in quite a few missions to make the rangers, seals, delta and even clandestine operations seem cool.

( I almost wish they would do that again because the latest batch of CoD games have been Fortnite clones)

Can’t be helped considering how much money Fortnite makes. It makes a buttload of cash,

Hell, the US Army literally made a game, and basically all of gachaslop chinkshit is made in part with goverment money. MiHoYo/Hoyoverse for example started because the founders won a game developer competition hasted by the goverment, and they to this day still get a lot of prizes, collaborations, and things like that with public organizations (fun fact: The founders are probably the biggest evafags of all of China, since they named like half of their first projects after Evangelion references)

It's not fraud to spend money foolishly.

If the Gov gives you a pile of money and says "spend this on making a game" then even if you go bankrupt and the game never comes out it's fine as long as you spent the money to (try and fail to) make the game. If you spend it on feathering your nest then that's fraud, even if you still manage to make the game and it's a beloved hit.

But will that lead to a brit teenager killing himself? We can only hope
It drags you in and they make it very real.

Can't it be deemed culpable negligence or something at some point?

Common trend is that state/national governments expand their pre-existing television/film grant support organisations to cover videogames as well rather than setup a separate cultural grant organisation. The developer of Project Feline turned down a grant from Screen Australia over some confusion over the terms of the grant contract, made a video about it too.

It makes enough money that Epic funnels it into running their own grants program.

I wish USA had some grifter bucks up for grabs just to make a game, I'd pump something out in Renpy.

It doesn't work like that.

First you have to be a vetted member of the inner circle, complete with your own file of sufficiently destructive blackmail evidence to ensure you are on equal grounds with the rest. Then the influence and black funds begin to flow out to the professional companies; certain payments are made, certain individuals are hired in middle-administration roles (possibly you and another operative) who begin to warp the smallest of details of a project up until someone eventually complains and you can begin to slowly weed out anyone who resists. They can then be replaced with your own people. Eventually the entire project has been compromised at the developmental level and will broadcast or display strategic portions of The Agenda. Over time, you and others from your intelligence organization may gain industry recognition, and some might even become well-respected and celebrated members of the community. This allows for exponential growth of The Agenda, even so far as to begin developing media that is nearly 100% propaganda hidden beneath a blanket of CGI animals and beloved Hollywood actors.

"Government backed project" in anything but hard science and engineering, like building a brdge, is almost always at least 50% scam. I can't claim to be a woldwide traveler who has done did it all, but I hear and see things that lead me to believe it's universal.

I wonder if the push to normalize wide swaths of degeneracy is in part an indirect way of getting out of blackmail lmao

problem is these retarded boomers don't actually play games so all they see them as is a propaganda outlet so of course all the games they push will just be shitty leftwing propaganda

I know Canada throws around tons of art grants like I'm pretty sure the majority of David Cronenburgs films are funded primarily with government grants. Now that games are totes for real serious art dude it makes sense they'd start giving tax money to faggy art school video"games"

No government should be funding games. Just look at what happened with Dustborn. It was funded by the Norwegian government to tell Americans how bad they are. Nothing good is going to come out of government funded games. The games made with private funds are filled with woke garbage so the government funded games will definitely be absolute trash filled with cringey propaganda.

It was actually America's Army. They also funded Full Spectrum Warrior. I played that back in the mid to late 2000's. I have it on Steam as well. From what I understand there is a way you can unlock the actual training version of the game.
