2024 Syrian opposition offensives - The first Syrian rebel offensive against Government forces since March 2020

HTS is a terror organization as designated by the United States.
A terror organisation that does not engage in terrorism, denounces terrorism, and kills terrorists. Maybeprobably even in cooperation with the US government.

That old Assad game of calling everyone terrorists is being played right now by Russians, Iranian and their social media influencers, that's why it keeps getting spammed here in this thread.
Half of this subforum consumes absolutely nothing unless it was authored by Assad's allies.

Some context, so you know what angle all these posts and screencaps and videos are coming from.

Fully agree with your post, just one small nitpick in this section.
Not really. They knew something was coming, but the problem is that the SAA was just hollowed out. There wasn't anything left. I want to be clear, the SAA was one of the most effective and professional fighting forces in the region for a long time, and what they were able to accomplish in the early stages of the war can be described as nothing short of Herculean. One of my favorite examples was near the Homs military academy, where the SAA had encircled a number of Hezbollah fighters, and intentionally withdrew along the thinnest salient, which caused Hezbollah to overcommit and surge over a thousand fresh troops into the bulge. Immediately afterwards the SAA reclaimed the salient and killed something like two thousand Hezbollah fighters. We're talking tactical considerations on the level of individual buildings. Absolutely stellar leadership and discipline.
It wasn't Hezbollah. Hezbollah was fighting together with the SAA in some parts of the city, I think it was either the Al-Nusra (from where Jolani hails) or Al-sham (one of the biggest users of VBIEDs) troops that got annihilated in Homs.

Somewhat related to this, but I just remembered than some rebel guy used to upload videos about SAA position being taken or overrun to Liveleak with titles like: "ASSadist bondage party interrupted", "ASSadist sexfort destroyed by hellcannon" :story: :story:
It appears to me that HTS is genuinely attempting to play ball with the US and Gulf States. I don't know if this line will hold, but at least right now, in this moment, it appears that their objective is to build a big tent moderate base of support. I am genuinely praying that this line holds.Ver archivo adjunto 6734387
I'll remain skeptical of these Islamists for the time being, it is too good for it to be true. Especially due to the history of the many groups and people that compose the HTS.

Yes but that doesn't change the fact that our 'coalition of the willing' killed far more Iraqis than Saddam ever dreamed of and left it a dysfunctional failed state.
because killing was the worst thing that happened to people under hussein and uday, right? i'm sure the country would've been just fine with uday as a potential leader when saddam croaked for whatever reason.

Iraq is a dysfunctional Iranian client state(with a U.S. military presence that will probably never go away), but it’s more or less intact. “Democracy” however corrupt and sectarian exists, and life goes on a generation after the Iraq war. I’d say the Iraq war was…a success? At least insofar as the country didn’t completely disintegrate.

If that lasts indefinitely, or more war flares up is impossible to say. But Iraq is fine, more or less nowadays. The Kurds are autonomous and isis if it exists it all, is tiny bands of die hards in the desert that consider a victory being killing one border policeman.

I guess this is the happy ending for Assad? I low-key want to see Ruskie boomer patients taking photos with him in his clinic with corny captions like “he Bashar’d my glaucoma so and I am no longer A-sad.”
He'll become a wagie.
More like self-employed, unless Russia doesn’t allow him a private practice license or whatever equivalent. I GUESS he could be an low-paid employee eye doctor at Russia’s equivalent to a VA hospital…

SAA never fought Hezbollah? They were allies.
Do you mean FSA or Al-Nusra?

Edit: Ninja'd by others

Yeah because HTS was an off-shoot of Al-Nusra which was an off-shoot of Al-Queda.
Calling them terrorists is because they actually started as terrorists.

There is a good reason to suspect HTS is gonna return to its roots; however, there are good reasons to hope and predict it might not.

It is incredible how some uneducated, unemployed, unshaved goatfuckers took over a country vs. official army.
Pretty sure it happens in Afghanistan every few decades or so.

@A Cardboard Box by 2014 Hezballah was already allied with the SAA. Are you perhaps thinking of another group?
I am a total fucking retard dyslexic and meant to say they worked with hezbollah to spring the trap on rebels. Genuine apologies, I had just woken up when I wrote that post.

Edit: It was Al-Nusra specifically. Again, genuine apologies for any confusion if I remember correctly the exact course the engagement I was thinking of the encirclement was executed by the SAA stationed at the military academy and Hezbollah which occupied the city block across the D34(?) corridor. It's been a long time and I really can't be fucked to go and find the actual paper I read on it. Thank you all again for correcting the fact that the SAA never fought Hezbollah and I'm a fucking retard for mixing that up.

Wait, it’s cause Egypt contained the situation by choice and it was actually anti-Western and anti-European countries like Russia, Turkey, Syria and Algeria who were facilitating sending them your way as an act of hostility all along
I get you, but I disagree on the by choice part.

I think part of it is the current regime wanting to play geopolitics and be a team player to the west, but also because they actually have no choice in the matter if they don't want to collapse.
The current Egyptian regime is pretty much kept afloat with massive amounts of loans and attempts at investments(not just western ones, BRICS aside China and Russia are big players with stuff like Agriculture megaprojects in the desert and EV factories from the former and the nuclear power plant that I doubt will ever come to fruition from the latter) and as such I doubt said loaners would ever tolerate any fuckery, with the added bonus of them not wanting to add Egypt's ridiculously overpopulated numbers to the migrant waves.
Plus I doubt the regime itself wants to make any plays considering... y'know.

Lol... LMAO even.

80% of the SAA that stayed with Assad after the civil war really kicked off in 2011 were absolutely SHIT.

Useless troops who could, at best, man a checkpoint and steal.

Iran was flying in IRGC by the planeload and resorted to Aghan and Iraqi Shia mercs plus some Pakistani Shia mercs by 2013 onwards

Hezzbollah saved Assad's ass in the South in 2012-2013.

The IRGC eventually figured out that they best they could do was make a national militia and those militias would stay local and keep the rebels away from their neighborhood, town or small city but were never moved out of their areas.

The Syrian Air Force degenerated into a flying Ba'ath party / Alawite milita only good for area bombing civilians.

The Syrian Navy.... Stopped existing as a viable force as the sailors were pressed into ground combat.

Assad has 2-3 reliable and reasonably well trained and equipped divisions in his entire military by 2012 and that number never increased.

Before the Russian intervention in 2015 it looks like Assad was in real danger of losing the war.

Russia and Iran are the ONLY reasons the Syrian civil war lasted 13 years.

And Assad STILL FUCKING LOST AND RAN LIKE A BITCH, as did General Botox (pederast) and the rest of the Tiger Forces and Republican Guard.
