Sadly, there's only really room for Barnes & Noble and like one independent bookstore per city.

tbf amazon has made big chain bookstores utterly redundant, and as much as i love traipsing around niche bookstores, and being looked at like dogshit by all the owners, i also really like being able to get obscure books delivered to my door for literal pennies.
 
The times they are a changing.


Are libraries on their way out? I don't think I'd be surprised if they are.
They've adapted to include a lot of DVD rentals, internet access, spaces for public seminars/classes. They also tend to provide nearly any government form someone would need to fill out and submit for something. Very little of what libraries do these days involve books.
 
I think public libraries are kept in business by homeless guys who need a computer and internet connection to watch porn.

So guys like this basically.

I don't think they're actually doing anything to help keep them open so much as they're stinking up the place.
