To be quite frank, the issue with addiction is not the medicine. The issue is that a huge amount of addicts do not want to get clean and there is no way to force them to get clean. You could keep an addict locked up for 10 years and the first thing he does when he gets out is use.

I know guys who had it all: a dream job, a wife above reproach, excellent children, close friends, and fun hobbies, but they threw it all away for alcohol and/or drugs. It's fucking weird and I have no clue how to address this.

Some people's nerves/neurons never really heal from drug exposure. The receptor densities change, the neuronal connections change, and there's even evidence of neuronal loss. Some people they revert and some people they don't.

All you can do is try to protect people from being exposed in the first place. Opiates especially.

Most of those issues have nothing to do with the ACA and everything to do with the DEA being a bunch of puritanical pricks.

My issue with it is it sounds like some guys blame drugs and drug companies, rather than look at their choice to take the drugs. However, my drug of choice was always and only alcohol, and all the guys in my AA group with years of sobriety from opiates said they refused to take any substitutes because they knew they would get hooked on them. So, while I have sympathy for addicts, I have a clear bias.

I know to be extremely careful with any GABA agonist drug because I know I'll get hooked.

I sort of agree with this. I'm not a huge 12 Steps guy and, for me, simply staying sober, hanging around other people in recovery, and being regularly reminded of the consequences of drinking does wonders. Other people really do benefit from a reawakened spiritual life.

Indeed. It's why I can't drink anymore: even a single night of binging means I'll get severe withdrawals. Kindling is very, very real. You can recover with enough recovery (time and actually working on your issues), but some people's brains are messed up.

The best defense is teaching kids to say no from the beginning. It's not worth it. No one ever says "alcohol made my life better." Or cocaine. Or heroin.

If you look at the relapse rates buprenorphine isn’t any more effective than methadone, which has its own problems.

The ACA encourages a treatment industry that does more to pad big pharma’s pocketbooks than it does to help addicts.

Same thing with opiate addicts. They can stay clean for years, and “reset” their tolerance. That first hit after abstinence will get them nice and high.

But within a few weeks, they’ll be back to the same crazy high tolerance they had when they quit. The receptors have been permanently changed.

Have you ever heard about the Sinclair method btw?

It’s a treatment for alcoholism where you keep drinking but take naltrexone at the same time.

That way it decouples the pleasure addicts feel from drinking from alcohol.

I’ve heard people swear by it.

He's a good starting point if you're a deconverting shitlib, but he has a (somewhat understandable) blind-spot on race/HBD. Everything is the result of culture for Sowell, which isn't that different from what the left-wing constructivists think.

Ignoring the role of HBD in affecting the way people act is ignoring half or more of the explanation. Unfortunately, liberalism cannot incorporate this important aspect of human behavior into its internal logic for reasons which are probably obvious.

I haven't seen many people dig into the github containing Kamala's financial statements, so here are a few things:

Kamala's campaign has 845 people on the payroll (file harris_people.csv)
Trump had 145 (file trump_people.csv)
That's without cleaning up duplicates, but it's already a great indication.

With no cleanup (and I know it needs cleanup, will update when done), it means Trump had 17% of the people Kamala had.

Edit: Trump cleanup comes out at 101 people, I could not find duplicates in Kamala's list. That's actually 12% of people.

I'm seconding the suggestion to just tell him to watch one of the podcasts. I suggest JD over Trump, though, since Trump runs off of vibes while JD is better at articulating the details of the MAGA platform.
There's a reason that he and Walz completely flipped favorability polling pre and post-election. JD is very good at winning people over when they listen to him, the only reason his polling isn't even better is because of the large amount of Dems who straight up refuse to do so.
