I haven't really listened much to Pelosi so consider this a blind take.
The whole time I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, despite what I've heard about her. I know much of what she was saying was incorrect, just as a matter of living my life and paying attention. So I kept asking myself - is she delusional, insane, or a liar?
A few things finally clicked while listening.
First, the way she talked was:
"People just didn't understand our messaging"
"People just didn't fully understood all we've done for them"
"People just don't understand the larger vision"
"Xenophobic, nationalist populism is wrong, people are just voting based off of their own finances which is no better than a billionaire voting based off of only their tax return"
My conclusion is not only is she fucking batshit insane, she genuinely thinks she knows better than the people what's best for them and their own country.
She does not see herself as a servant of the people. She sees herself as the arbiter, the judge, the patron saint of the holy cause. She expects people to sacrifice themselves upon the alter of her religion.
And if they vote wrong, well, they just don't really get it do they? And that's not a mistake from her or her party. That's a problem with them. They're just too stupid to get it. They have less money in their bank account? Well they should tighten their belt and consider what really matters! She's insane.
My second observation is that she seems to think that being a politician is some sort of scorecarding endeavor.
She said multiple times, but we created jobs, but the CHIPS act, but we got people shots in the arm, but we got children back in schools and back to work.
To her it seems that all that matters is the type of acts they pass and numbers on a piece of paper. Not the actual impact it has on the people. Not their perception of it. Not reality.
What was the actual result of those created jobs? How many were full time versus part time? How many went to American citizens instead of immigrants? How many were even real? How many were revised away? It doesn't matter! Don't you understand we created 16 million jobs! If people don't understand they just don't get it, dammit!
All that matters is what's on the scorecard. It doesn't matter what the results on the tests were. It doesn't even matter if you got a 0 on half of them. It doesn't even matter if you showed up to class or not! All that matters is the A on your report card. Never mind the fresh red ink covering up what looks suspiciously like an F underneath.
She genuinely seems to think that people are delusional about their own reality and that what bills and acts they passed matter more than what the actual tangible results of those bills and acts were. Actual struggles of actual people? No, no. They just don't understand what actually happened. Again, she's batshit insane.
It's the same with her own party's results. You see, reality doesn't matter. Lost the presidential election? Lost the popular vote? Lost the senate? Might lose the house? No, no. You see, the democrats won, she says smugly, because we got four house seats. A cataclysmic loss and she says oh no actually we're doing great. We did everything correctly, and we won because of it. Batshit.
I can't imagine any other scenario where someone would say this. Well, we lost two multi-billion dollar contracts. And our yelp reviews are in the gutter. But, we did everything right and we won. How you might ask? Four thousand dollar contracts might have been secured! Just ignore that we might have lost even more than just all that... we won. And if you can't see that. You just don't get it. And that makes you the stupid one.
And yes she's dishonest too. Anyone who brings up the project 2025 or "going after political enemies" bullshit stuff is a liar. There is no way you can't be aware of the lie.
So delusional, dishonest, or insane?
My initial impression of pelosi: All 3.
Please someone correct me if this blind take is innacurate. Listening to that interview made me actually viscerally angry.
Final sidenote "let's just drop Trump's personal stuff [lawfare against him], people... some people voted for him anyway. It's done." AKA our plan didn't work and people ignored our transparent attacks so let's not discuss it any further. Bitch.
