Black Myth Wukong - Monkeys aren't diverse enough

Game looks cool but its just another UE5 slob trying to pass as a soul game. I rather not give money to the Chinese.
They're kind of pissed it's being written off as a souls like IIRC, it wasn't designed like that, it's just meant to be an action RPG.

Read its playable on deck on low settings. Will keep an eye on if patches make it better.

There's no confirmation it's real. But is there confirmation it's fake?
Well on GamingLeaksAndRumours, I saw a journalist say they had a very barebones agreement with nothing of the sort from the leak. Why would a Chinese dev care about that anyway?

As of 9PM in Beijing, it has beaten Palworld's peak player count.

The dev won't and can't take the risk.
What fucking risk? If it's people pirating it then denuvo is no help, all it does is separate paying customers from a working version of the game. If you've paid for this, you've been given an objectively worse service than if you were to wait until they get rid of it or just not buying it in the first place, this piece of shit has been ruining games for paying customers since the introduction of DRM by Valve for HL2. Even Gabe knows that piracy is a service issue and it will always be a service issue and companies are more than willing to fuck over a paying customer and give them a worst service by introducing this virus into their product. Also if denuvo forget to pay for their domain name again and the parasite can't call home good luck trying to play your SINGLE-PLAYER GAME.
Would you pay for a game if you were to get a worst experience than not paying for it? Cause all denuvo does is give you a worst experience and you paid for the privilege.

I'm not saying the publisher did the right thing. Above all, I hate denuvo too.
Take the fact that most Chinese don't like paying for any kind of non-physical goods as long as there is free access into account, their decision is understandable, while unacceptable.

If it wasn't for the rootkit I would buy it.

I really miss when the games used to just need the original disk to launch. It was a hassle but it didn't gimp the entire game autistically pinging the server? I AM HACKED YET? No. BETTER CHECKSUM ALL 100 GIGABYTES! every millisecond.

IIRC, Sweet Baby Inc tried to cajole them into hiring their consultants and the devs told them to go fuck themselves.
This is a silly game of telephone and I'm not sure how such a huge amount of people online managed to actively take it as a truthful gospel, but:

If you ask practically anyone for a source or for more information about this topic, they'll either directly or indirectly lead you to: https://x.com/Pirat_Nation/status/1801457411305210241 (A).
Pirat_Nation (the author of this tweet) is an engagement farming twitter user whose entire existence relies on screencapping and/or quoting OPs that reach over 200 replies on 4chans "/v/ - The Vidya" board.
The original post from 4chan quoted by this twitter individual is a screencap of https://weibo.com/2269443552/OiaYsfc7l (A) by a "tech blogger" named 兲虎.
兲虎 has no connection to Game Science nor the gaming industry of China in the first place, he is a failed Electric Car and Smartphone tech blogger.

The entire post is a fever dream made due to the fact that he is hurt about negative reception about the "first" Chinese AAA game, he has a post where he further melts down into a schizophrenic rambling session where he compares the situation at hand to some electric cars having negative reception overseas, some shit about blockchains and data farming bots and feminism at https://www.weibo.com/2269443552/Oiwb9gq7f (A).

I apologise if I sound so standoffish in that post, was not my intention. I am just tired and becoming apathetic towards the medium as a whole, with that knowledge it makes sense for the suits to add it but to be honest I don't blame the Chinese for trying to get non-physical goods for free given how software companies now are opting for subscription based services and in some cases not honouring perpetual licenses just to get them onto said subscription but that's repeating myself about it being a service issue.

So is the game actually any good? I'm having a hard time finding unbiased opinions. People are weirdly invested into whether or not this game succeeds.
I have no vested interest in the politics behind the game and didn't even know the thing existed until a couple weeks ago at best since I'm pretty much all but completely out of the modern video game zeitgeist.

From the few hours I played last night its a solid character action game with very light RPG stats to dick around with. It's not doing anything revolutionary and I am happy to say it's not really a Souls game but what it does is really well done and I really like the art direction and world this game has. The animation the monkey king has is something striking to me, everything feels as if it has weight to it, even just him running.

Maybe wait on a discount if you're hesistant.

The "not diverse enough" is so bullshit. If an African myth based game came out, would they say lions and tigers aren't diverse enough, or even just black Africans? Of course not. If anything Chinese people seem less represented in games than black people to me, and I'll try not to make a joke about how the monkeys represent them.

The biggest sin seems to be they do a crap job of telling the story of Sun Wukong which is a big shame given it's the first, sort of, chinese AAA title with worldwide attention and it's a perfect story to tell. I can see why they might think Asian gamers would feel a bit patronised by it, too, though.

I will wait to see how it runs on the deck and maybe get it in a sale.
This to me is what I hate and find the most annoying about these DEI/HR agencies finding ways to justify their existence, and it's through bullying mob tactics to try and shame dev teams. I think a game based on African lore/myths could be really cool, and I would play it if that subject matter is something a prospective dev team is interested in. I have no problem playing games that don't directly relate to me, I want to play games that are fun and interesting. But diversity hire retards are inherently uncreative narcissists, and need all the media they consume to cater and placate them directly.

the realistic monkey man is offputing as fuck.
I despise monkeys so much. They're some of the ugliest creatures on the planet and I hate looking at them. Movies I saw growing up tried to convince me they were funny/cute, but I always found them to be obnoxious, overrated animals — no, I don't support monkey torture at all. I hate that's the assumption today.

I honestly thought the game's reveal trailers looked really neat, but I was turned off enough by the monkey protagonist to be hesitant to play it. I get it. I understand the mythology behind it. Still don't like looking at butt-ugly, cringe-as-hell monkeys.
