welp, I guess Harris wins a few points up in the evil scale, what about that one queen that bathed in virgin blood or whatever?
 
I'm going to come out and say that I think ALL serial killers are evil, whether they kill five or five hundred.

I like this statement.

Evil seems like such a... boring concept. It seems to mostly stem from ignorance.

It seems to me that people are good by nature, and have to rationalize their evil deeds. Even Josef "The Angel of Death" Mengele probably told himself something like "these people are subhuman, nothing of value will be lost with their passing" to be able to sleep at night.

I assume that in their own minds, they are the good guys. Chris does that as well, being a shining beacon of TRUTH and HONESTY. So I guess a normal person would preemptively list themselves as the most evil one. It's obviously false, but helps one keep an open mind.

The dictators and mass murderers... did they even think about all the suffering and anguish they were causing? Did they have the empathy, the capacity to feel for their victims? I really don't think so.

To make matters worse, the bullying wasn't really the cause of the shooting. They did it to be famous, to be remembered as one of the greatest mass murderers. Their original plan was to blow up propane bombs in the cafeteria (which if they had worked would have killed around 600 people), gun down fleeing survivors, drive away, then come back with car bombs and run them into the first responders and police.

and it's speculated that Harris, who was a psychopath that saw himself as a god and hated people simply because he could, manipulated Dylan's problems (who was depressive, suicidal) to help him out.

At the end of the article they mention that it's kind of a double edged sword if they had somehow managed to stop Columbine. Dylan could have been rehabilitated but they believe Harris probably would have went on to become a serial killer.

Cullen has a good theory but he also has a tendency to declare his analysis as definitive. There are some authors that vehemently disagree with Cullen's book Columbine, but Cullen pretty much thinks his book wraps the subject up. Also see the subtitle of the article you linked to.

For what it's worth, I largely agree with Cullen, particularly because Harris' sociopathic behavior before the massacre is usually forgotten. At the same time, it's irresponsible to completely ignore the testimony of students and video evidence that portray the pervasive environment of bullying and social hierarchy that existed at the school, which was even greater than in the typical American high school. So I think bullying was an important, albeit relatively minor, ingredient in what led to the massacre.

Some of them did, some didn't. Some were as you described above, but some had a psychological inability to empathize.
 
Jon Venables and Robert Thompson.

At age 10, they tortured a toddler to death and left his body on a railway track because they were bored. Venables is apparently a massive sack of shit now and the police reckon he would have been a serial child killer if he wasn't caught.

Myra Hindley and Ian Brady (who still won't tell the final victim's family where the body is buried) would be my second choice.

Hell, any child murderer/molester gets my vote really.

Dishonourable mention goes to The Marquis De Sade, the guy who had a whole form of utter bastardry named after him.

Fuck no. De Sade was a sick fuck in print and did weird things with prostitutes but in the case of the former it was much needed transgressive material in an especially repressive society and in the case of the former it was all consensual. I always found his writings a lil tedious and monotonous (and considering his subject matter...that is quite an accomplishment) but his writings are nonetheless a noble ancestor of both trolling and "shock" artists. He most certainly does not belong in the same category as actual scumbags.

Just glanced at the page. Those motherfuckers. Even Gary Gilmore, the murderer whose life was chronicled in Norman Mailer's The Executioner's Song, thought they were pieces of shit.

I'm not sure if I should put Jeffrey Jones in here. I think he was a good actor, but at the same time, I think he's a perv who needs no sympathy.

I'm glad he's dead, and silenced forever, aren't you. A burial is too good for him. Should have been ground up into dog food. or stuffed with a smile and used as a crucified scarecrow. Or dug up and teabagged by a transvestite hooker. :3
