Unpopular Opinions about TV

I just don't like the American version of The Office. I tried. I didn't last long. I'll stick with the Britbong version.
 
90 percent of everything ever made is crap. You just have to dig for the 10 percent of stuff that's good.

The original Honeymooners is still good, because it lets Jackie Gleason be completely unhinged. Early Simpsons and Married with Children are also classics, because they were made to go against the current sensibilities of the time and had decent writing. That Fantasy Island series with Malcolm McDowell was pretty good, along with a lot of early episodes of the X Files. They're small islands in an ocean of crap like Coach and The Brady Bunch, but most TV was just made to get people to turn off their brains, anyway.

Eh, it's more like 90 percent is mid. Been watching Head of the Class reruns and it's a very mid show for the 80s. Which means it's not outright garbage and it does its job as TV content. I'd rather watch WKRP in Cincinnati if I had to pick, but whatever.

Modern shows like She-Hulk or Ahsoka or Velma are junk and they're the mean of modern TV. That was not the case even 20 years ago.

Most of late 80s and early 90s TV was shit, but you have to give them some credit. There was at least effort attempted in a lot of it. There were some shows that had really good ideas, but it was just shit timing with when they premiered, or the effects didn't quite land all the time and a lot of THAT aged poorly. Honestly, I'd prefer a lot of that 90s cheese in Friday evening family sitcoms than the slop we're served with now. At least back then when a family fought, you'd always see them work shit out and at least TRY and talk to one another.

That's why I say mid and not shit. Mid just means mediocre, as in C- work. Modern shows are Ds and Fs.

Oh, no doubt a lot of it was just middle of the road shit. Shit that you just used as background noise as you wound down from school or work, but there was a LOT of shit shows too. Granted, they weren't nearly as bad as anything modern, but you get what I'm sayin'.
 
Most of the classic American sitcoms are just worse but not necessarily bad remakes of British ones. On the other side, the UK has never been able to remake an American comedy show without fucking it up.
Til Death Do Us Part was remade to All in the Family. Something just more nasty about the original UK one.

Streaming is still better than cable, just have to not be a retarded by having multiple streaming services at the same time. If you alternate between them still cheaper, and still more convenient.

What is the point of music videos now, 99% will now "watch" one on YouTube instead will be listening to the music as background noise while doing something else. MTV was the death of the music video.

Bob Chapek was right when he said “I always say that when [parents] put their kids to bed at night after watching [an animated film], they're probably not going to tune into another animated movie. They want something for them." but man-children and click bait turned it into "adults don't like animated films" when what he was saying is they want to watch something they can't watch in family time and when the kids are in bed is pretty much their opportunity for that.
 
The Bear has slowly devolved into a very middling drama series. The first season was great. The second season was good. This third season was mediocre, with little happening and the showrunner clearly having disappeared up his own ass. Way too many montages of some song playing while the characters stare off into the horizon, smoke cigarettes, or wash floors. I also assume the creator/showrunner was a chef or was somehow involved in that world because there are far too many scenes of the various chefs telling each other how noble and important their profession is.

Gone are the episodes with anxiety-inducing editing as the characters work in the kitchen or the service staff rush to get the food out, now the show is mostly about standard relationship and family drama crap.
 
Friends sucks. Always been more of a Seinfeld and Frasier kind of gal.

Game of Thrones and Stranger Things have always been overrated.

The Wire, while really good and 100% worth watching, is not the best show of all time (Hello, Sopranos or Breaking Bad).

The Big Bang Theory isn't the worst show ever made. In fact, I found the first 2-3ish seasons to be standard sitcom fare that was cute and really enjoyable. It's clear the writers ran out of material fast despite it lasting for 10+ years though. When the show started, the jokes were about the quirks of the main characters. As the show progressed, the "jokes" were just random pop culture references placed everywhere. That said, I do enjoy how angry this show makes so many nerds, as they are completely unaware that a lot of them DO, in fact, act like this. lol.

Everybody Loves Raymond is one of the best sitcoms of the 90's and early 2000's. Fellow millennials, for some reason, have a burning, seething hatred for this show and I always get attacked when I say I enjoy it. I think my siblings and I are legitimately the only millennials on the planet who love this show.

I recently re-watched Arrested Development (within the past 2-3 years), and ... Yeah, I don't think the show holds up on multiple rewatches. It's great to watch once ... But it has that kind of humor where when you've already seen it once, you don't really find much entertainment value in seeing it again and it's boring.

Matlock was pretty dope though. Not nearly as dope as Columbo ... But it wasn't a bad show.

(Also, Cobra Kai rocks.)

I rewatched some of House M.D since I do remember enjoying it as a kid and I had to stop

House's nihilistic sarcasm and constant disrespect towards everyone around him was maybe unique back then but I have seen so much of that these days, especially Redditors, that it just makes me roll my eyes and be like "I get it, you are depressed, in pain and hates things you cant understand nor control. Can you actually show some development?". I know that, even back then, people pointed out if House did 1/10 of what he does in an actual hospital, he would get instantly fired but watching it in a marathon it can get very aggravating. It doesnt reach the same levels of unsufferable like Rick and Morty but it gets close at times.

I didnt watch the whole series but I recall seeing some fans complaining that House did get some level of improvement and less arrogant in his own beliefs but he sort of fell back hard in the last few seasons.

With something like Breaking Bad and Bojack Horseman, I dont think there is any doubt that we are following a bad person in their framing device but this show constantly elevates House and makes everyone around like look like a sucker. Feels power fantasy ish at times.

It sucks because there are moments of legit greatness in it but ironically its title character tends to ruin it.

I rewatched it recently as well. While I disagree with the idea that he's a redditor, mainly because he makes fun of troons and niggers, I do agree that the last two seasons turned pretty bad, especially the early eighth season which had some of the worst dialogue and flanderization of any character that I've seen so far. He has quite a few moments where he's about to have a happy ending in the series and the rug/development gets pulled from under him for no apparent reason, but its just inevitable for him, thats kind of the point of his character. At least the end of the series is refreshingly good compared to most shows.

It makes it pretty clear that House lives a shitty life, I dunno how elevated he can be apart from him being right about medical stuff most of the time so the show can keep going.
