As someone with a still working VCR (I like it for cheap horror movies), this is just ignorance. Sure, the quality wasn't there. But you know what? Most TV's back then didn't have that clear of picture to begin with. Just look at early digital animation. It looked fine on those older models but on a modern TV it looks like garbage. Cable was still a big thing to have, and it sure didn't have the same quality as using an HDMI cable. It was good for the time.

Thought Beta had better quality.
