Windows 10 reaches 70% market share as Windows 11 keeps declining

Last month, Statcounter reported a notable decrease in Windows 11's market share, and the trend continued in April 2024. After reaching its all-time high of 28.16% in February 2024, Windows 11 plummeted below the 26% mark.

According to Statcounter, in April 2024, Windows 11 lost 0.97 points, going down from 26.68% to 25.65%. All those users seemingly went for Windows 10 since the OS, which will soon turn nine, crossed the 70% mark for the first time since September 2023, gaining 0.96 points.

It is interesting to see Windows 11 losing quite a significant chunk of users in the middle of its cycle. Even Windows 8 and 8.1, universally considered not great versions of Windows, only went down after the release of their successors. True, Statcounter is not 100% accurate in its estimates, but an almost 3-point decline for a product with over 1 billion devices is too big to dismiss.

Some argue that Windows 11 still offers little to no benefits for upgrading, especially in light of Microsoft killing some of the system's unique features, such as Windows Subsystem for Android. Add to that the ever-increasing number of ads, some of which are quite shameless, and you get an operating system that has a hard time winning hearts and minds and retaining its customers.

Later this month, Microsoft will showcase new AI features for Windows 11, which could become the first solid reason to leave Windows 10 behind. However, rumors indicate some of the most exciting parts will not be available on existing hardware. Therefore, customers who do not plan to upgrade their PCs simply have no reason to stay with Windows 11.

As for Windows 7, despite the no-support state and the continuous developer support exodus, it is still alive and kicking. Statcounter says about 3% (-0.04 points) of all Windows PCs are still powered by Windows 7, which was fully discontinued in January 2023. Some developers still release updates for Windows 7, but most mainstream apps and browsers ditched the old OS many months ago.

I have stutters on Windows 11 for a system capable of running Elden Ring at 4K maxed out, I sort of fixed it by going to the graphics and setting it to high performance but some still remained

I don't have those stutters at all in Windows 10 on the same PC, even after I debloated Windows 11 I still had issues with stutter and some software compatibility

Windows 11's design interface is completely made for retards who cannot manage to work a file directory at all, I wouldn't call it bad because it serves its purpose in being an oversimplified GUI for retards who can hardly operate a computer

With a bit of work, you can remove most of the dogshit from windows anyway. yes it requires a few hours tops, which is still a country mile less than linux. Plus you just need to read some shit online, rather than take estrogen pills, so its better.

When i used to play games with a linuxfag i always had to wait for him to do his stuff before we could start. I already have enough problems finding specific stuff on windows, i can only imagine how tricky it would be to get everything working on linux.
That said, even if someone (most likely microsoft) convinced me to switch to linux i would do my best to never tell anyone.

Dell has gone out of their way to charge people more to keep W10 when ordering computers. Most times when we order computers, we reinstall Windows 10 on them to replace the shitheap that is W11, no one wants to use it and the latest W11 updates just breaks network printing functionality.

The problem with Linux is that it is far, far worse than Windows at breaking things with updates and compatibility with things. The critical quality issues that Microsoft is slipping on (but still nowhere near as bad as they were in 2002) are not fixed by switching to Linux. It is made immeasurably worse. There are things Linux is good at, particularly anything where you need direct control over the system's behavior at a granular level at large scale.

Windows 12 should be stripped to the bone and rebuilt IMHO.

This is how you destroy a software company. Never do this unless your current product is already dead (e.g. Apple and OS9 -> OSX). When you have a product with decades of continuous development behind it, merely reaching feature parity with the new product will take, well, decades.

You have to do what Microsoft did to retire 9x with NT (all Windows since XP is NT-based, not 9x-based). You develop a new product for a new market, then keep the old one alive via maintenance-style development as you migrate more and more of your old market to the new product.

I tried Linux a couple years ago and gave up after six months because I was tired of it tanking my laptop's battery life, breaking hardware features like the screen brightness buttons, and not being able to manage to print anything. I also needed to be able to edit Word documents and such without completely messing up their formatting in a FOSS alternative. I couldn't even make a shortcut to a directory from the desktop because I was informed that the trannies who developed whatever distro I was using decided that the desktop "wasn't meant to be used that way". Call me a niggercattle all you want, I'm not going to use an OS which goes out of its way to make my life more difficult because it lets trannies feel superior.

Beautiful case study of GNOME being the faggiest, most niggerlicious and overall worst desktop UI experience seen by man, and I am 100% convinced that GNOME being the default on most mainstream distros is the #1 factor keeping new users from switching to linux. It's so fucking awful it's unbelievable. I honestly can't blame anyone wanting to stay on Windows whatsoever if their first experience with linux is tainted by having to use this astroturfed tranny garbage DE.
