Windows 10 reaches 70% market share as Windows 11 keeps declining

Last month, Statcounter reported a notable decrease in Windows 11's market share, and the trend continued in April 2024. After reaching its all-time high of 28.16% in February 2024, Windows 11 plummeted below the 26% mark.

According to Statcounter, in April 2024, Windows 11 lost 0.97 points, going down from 26.68% to 25.65%. All those users seemingly went for Windows 10 since the OS, which will soon turn nine, crossed the 70% mark for the first time since September 2023, gaining 0.96 points.

It is interesting to see Windows 11 losing quite a significant chunk of users in the middle of its cycle. Even Windows 8 and 8.1, universally considered not great versions of Windows, only went down after the release of their successors. True, Statcounter is not 100% accurate in its estimates, but an almost 3-point decline for a product with over 1 billion devices is too big to dismiss.

Some argue that Windows 11 still offers little to no benefits for upgrading, especially in light of Microsoft killing some of the system's unique features, such as Windows Subsystem for Android. Add to that the ever-increasing number of ads, some of which are quite shameless, and you get an operating system that has a hard time winning hearts and minds and retaining its customers.

Later this month, Microsoft will showcase new AI features for Windows 11, which could become the first solid reason to leave Windows 10 behind. However, rumors indicate some of the most exciting parts will not be available on existing hardware. Therefore, customers who do not plan to upgrade their PCs simply have no reason to stay with Windows 11.

As for Windows 7, despite the no-support state and the continuous developer support exodus, it is still alive and kicking. Statcounter says about 3% (-0.04 points) of all Windows PCs are still powered by Windows 7, which was fully discontinued in January 2023. Some developers still release updates for Windows 7, but most mainstream apps and browsers ditched the old OS many months ago.

If Linux wasn't full of autistic infighting and could consolidate their efforts into a single distro, now would be the time to strike.
Debian, Ubuntu, or Linux Mint. Pick your poison. Or Devuan or MX Linux if you don't want systemd. Ignore that last sentence if you have no idea what systemd is.

Google Windows 11 debloater and it's the first option on GitHub. It takes like 10 minutes to run, not a few hours.
Which one? this one seems pretty good. But I'm a linux guy so idk.

ChrisTitusTech made a good debloater app too. I've used it once or twice when using windows 10.

Jardeep and his homeboys will just push updates to brick non LTSC versions of 10 to push people off, I guarantee it.

Not shocked by this knowledge, Windows 11's UI is godawful.

Only 3 people I know have used Windows 11, likely because they got a random pop-up to update it while still on Windows 10 :story:

We had to roll back a majority of our fleer at work. Turns out W11 interfaces poorly with SCCM and causes updates to break.

Piece of shit.

With a bit of work, you can remove most of the dogshit from windows anyway. yes it requires a few hours tops, which is still a country mile less than linux. Plus you just need to read some shit online, rather than take estrogen pills, so its better.
The kids here are going to trashcan you because they don't know how a file directory works. Expecting them to play with the registry and powershell, even with a barney'd tutorial, is asking too much.

Windows users coping about how "dude you can just remove the spyware and bloat" when explaining how you have to download 3 executable and manually edit the registry just to stop Edge from pestering you to keep using it and get the start menu to not show ads
I know the internet is a scary place to some, you should stick to your tranny discords for safety. Let the men roam the plains.

Too true. I mean you can even get full software that debloats shit for you with a few clicks. "Oh no its an exe, I fall apart when its not curated by trannies", then they pretend they actually compile themselves and go over the code. They just flatpack it, until it breaks their OS, again.

I like my OS to just do its job and shut the fuck up, windows is fine for that.

Someone's still butthurt they were too dumb to figure out Linux Mint.

You know how there is Ungoogled Chrome? I think most people want UnMicrosofted Windows.
nah I was gonna say they should stay the course and keep pushing out bullshit updates and reinforce the reputation they know they have of the OS being loaded with bloat and stupid spyware/adware (I know its just actual ads and data trawling now but) thats annoying/impossible without a 3rd party app to turn off, that just makes your old hardware more inefficient with shit that people dont want in the first place.

For a long time if it ever pops up with 'Hey do you want the COOL NEW UPDATE -- EARLY RELEASE EDITION of this new Windows Update' and Id go Hell no, and I started noticing a few years back when they still try to force it on you anyway and you select 'Ill schedule it 7 days later from now' for as many times as it lets you, that it even just admits these are 'non security updates'.

Im just being spiteful about it now, fuck you Micro$$$hit.

I have no use for tranny porn, so never tried it (plus I preferred KDE)
I don't know why mint or gnome shit is always suggested over kde to people to get them to switch from windows. Kde is full of the kind of window driven customization options that windows power user autists love. The kde software suite has the highest quality basic desktop apps of all the desktop environment, it's slick and shiny and easy to get shit setup without dicking around in terminals. I don't understand why anyone would even bother with any other desktop environment for everyday computer shit.

because for a lot of linux users, its about being part of the tranny cult. Thats all it is. They are also the ones shitting up every windows thread, with their lack of compatibility, just like their OS.

Even when you point it out, their first port of call is always "hur hur, you are too stupid to use linux" because to them, using linux must mean they are smart.

But in the end, most of them come crawling back to windows, quietly accepting its a better OS for most people.
