The problem is that there isn't enough of them to carry an election anymore. They're a political dead end at this point which is why the establishment is moving on. It's a cold and calculated decision, and understandably the white working class is not happy about this, but it's just one of those things. Economics and politics change over time, same thing with demographics. People just end up left in the cold through no fault of their own.
Yep. I don't think Trump is Presidential material, but I think that his Presidential run has fundamentally altered American politics. For die-hard MAGAs, it will be of course a major disappointment, but for #NeverTrump fans, the whole situation won't just go away like a bad dream and have everyone fall back in line. It's tempting to dismiss Trump's candidacy as an outlier, but it's a disservice to the electorate to do. Trump won the GOP nomination because his message resonated with the majority of the primary voters. That group of people will still be Republicans on November 9th, and the party has to recognize their grievances and their existence. I've heard some of the typical GOP TV pundits - like Bill Kristol - act as if Trump's nomination was a fluke to be dismissed. That's a mistake. Whether the GOP establishment like it or not, he was chosen by the voters who felt as if their party no longer represented them. So they're going to have to acknowledge that fact as they move forward.
And that's not even bringing up the hard-Right conspiracy theorists, white nationalists, etc.
If Trump wasn't such a shitty human being, this race would be very different heading into its final weeks.
Agreed. It's a choice between giving up a kidney in a life risking dangerous surgery with no anesthetic, or having potential total organ failure later on. There are no good options right now for the GOP and they've consistently made it worse over the past few decades both with their rhetoric and stubborn refusal to modify course when it would have been far less painful. This is not a demographic that will go quietly and the GOP risks its very existence by ignoring it. Right now, they're in the shitty position of cutting off the core of their base, which is arguably now a minority in America, or having broader appeal. This is a Hobson's choice I would not want to be in if I were the leader of the GOP.
While I agree affirmative action needs a hammer taken to it to beat it back into shape, that doesn't entirely explain the economic issues of whites or blacks or hispanics. The general context this entirely taking place in should be looked at more than the individual moments, such as the rise of automation, China, and a shift in the general underpinnings of the American Economy away from being heavily dependent on manufacture.
EDIT OF EDIT:
This is also why I find people like Trump so dangerous and morally repugnant. They promise a group that they'll fix everything wrong with them, and then exploit them to gain power and either make things worse or at best change nothing for these people. I get why they turn towards him, but that doesn't make the potential rise of racially and religiously charged populism any less dangerous than it was the first time around.

So much this. Anyone who thinks that Trump will harm American politics when elected is retarded; he doesn't have enough support with the mainstream Republicans or Democrats to pass anything through Congress. His real damage will come through the people he brings into the political table.Yep. I don't know why people interpret "their rapists" as "they're rapists". Makes absolutely no sense in the context of what he was saying.I don't agree. This is the quote-
When Mexico sends its people they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you; they’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people. But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting
TrumpTV will continue his message. It's here to stay.
So much this. Anyone who thinks that Trump will harm American politics when elected is exceptional; he doesn't have enough support with the mainstream Republicans or Democrats to pass anything through Congress. His real damage will come through the people he brings into the political table.
This is in my opinion the real long term effect of Trump, and something that'll possibly lead to political violence in the future. The Know-Nothing-Party's spiritual successor is in this sort of movement Trump is forming, and I can't see it doing a remotely positive thing for the future of the nation in any way whatsoever.Yeah they're gonna be dealing with this for a long time.
Daily reminder Bernie Tards got Berned lmao
I'm not even fucking kidding, last week I saw a news article that suggested Bernie can still win the fucking general election.
You know, that's as good a reason as any to support Trump, and one I hadn't considered. If she does win the self-satisfied smug emanating from the Clinton drones will be disgusting. I can't even stomach the people on the forum who get giddy with excitement reading Nate Silver's latest self-aggrandizing bowel movement. I can't even trust a win from her because they've already found evidence of electronic tampering in Maryland and Illinois, but nothing is going to come out of it, just like how nothing came out of her foundation, her murders, her involvement in the middle east, and her handling of classified information.
Obama is a fucking moron intentionally sabotaging the country at this point by handing ICANN over to the United Nations and Clinton will continue to ruin things in that sense. I've decided if she does win I am moving the server over to Iceland and changing our domain permanently to .is, because I don't want anything to do with this country. I'll also probably move again. Seeing a chance at a Trump America helped me put my boots to the ground and start looking for work in the country because a faint flicker of hope and optimistic burned in me for a fraction of a second.
I think that's the most disappointing thing of all seeing people like the autistic communist gloating about polls. I'm not pro-Trump because I love his fucking hair. I see him as a way to challenge the status quo which has involved us in constant war since I was old enough to understand what war was. I see him as a way of keeping people I quite like in the services alive until they can get out. I see him as a way to improve an economy which has never benefited me; the only job I've had in the US involved french fries and every real dollar came from overseas. I see him as a way to feel good about being who I am.
My entire life I've been told I can't say the word nigger and I owe shit to black people and I needn't use the word "fag" because someone might be offended and the entire world is slant against women and I have it so easy because of my cock. I just can't understand things because I'm a straight white man living in America, and all Americans are stupid, especially those without a degree.
I caught less flak with a Nazi avatar openly quoting Hitler and Rommel than I did earnestly supporting Trump. I don't even know why. I don't support him because I hate Mexicans or some shit. People who like Trump more often than not just like their country and want to see good things come of it. They're willing to take a risk because they feel like they're staking something worth nothing for the chance of immense returns. We know what we'll get with Hillary and it's nothing good. Trump might be neo-Hitler or he might be the best president in recent memory. Maybe he'll flounder and get nothing done. There's a chance that he'll do good and there's not the faintest fucking hope that Clinton will do anything anyone will appreciate besides her owners.
Yes, and Fugazi is going to make another albumI'm not even fucking kidding, last week I saw a news article that suggested Bernie can still win the general election.
