I have so many questions, but I'm mostly curious rn about paranoia and it's general prevalence in moid culture. It just seems like so many guys have a heightened sense of paranoia more frequently than others? What factors contribute to this tendency towards this constant vigilance?

Sorry if there is already a thread like this or if it's in the wrong place.

I’m a little terrified myself of the pepper spray blowing back into my face.
This image combined with the pfp made me laugh my fucking ass off. :winner:

I don't know for sure that this is what you're asking, but:

My truck has a tire inflator, repair kit, medical kit, glow sticks, flashlight, a 20L jerry can of water, etc. Every day I carry a multi-tool, a pocket knife, a handgun, a flashlight, etc on my person.

I do not like the idea of waiting for someone else to solve my problems. I do not consider it paranoid, I do not fantasize about being a hero using these things any more than I fantasize about getting in a car accident when I put my seat belt on.

To a large extent, a person's value to me is their utility. Do they know useful skills? Did they show up prepared? Can they handle their business? That's how I look at the guy in the mirror, too.

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”
― Robert A. Heinlein

Paranoia when I've felt it in the past was solely due to social pressures and speech policing and the typical culture war bs of not knowing who to trust. Pepper that in with all the psyops that go on and autism involving wanting to know more leads you down a rabbit hole of suffering. Everything becomes a battlefield.

Relationships become a burden and self isolation and atomization becomes the norm

Men aren't paranoid, they're fairly realistic about dangers and are hard wired to be prepped for it.
Here are some examples that we would never think of, that my husband, his male coworkers and male friends all HAVE to do.
>not stare too long at a woman, even glancing twice can be seen as creepy.
>smiling at women, because it can be seen as creepy.
>cannot walk near any school or park by themself without suspiscion if an adult, even if it's on their way to work. Actually, that's worse, because it gets seen as a pattern.
>cannot walk too close behind a woman
>absolutely never ever touch a female coworker for any reason, not even for reassurance if they're afraid or sad.
>don't bother correcting a female workmate unless you want your ear talked off.

My husband isn't an incel, he doesn't hate women, hell most women like him. But he hates, h a t e s being alone with them for any reason. Hell, his advice to any teen boys is literally "do not ever be alone in a room with a woman, her friends don't count. If she decides to claim something, you're fucked".
This unironically happened to my brother. His ex admitted to doing it so he would get in trouble after he left her.
No, she was not punished for it.
Everything you're reading and thinking "oh that's rediculous", now imagine a man in that scenario and imagine if you would immediately be on alert. I'm definitely guilty with the glance thing, or guys zoning out and being unlucky by facing toward me, then me panicking. My husband can usually tell if a guy is just zoned out or not.

Similarly, many guys won't really think of the anxieties we might have, or the frustrations of not being taught some of the same things in the same way. There's a reason the man vs woman debate is as old as time.

Excellent post but I want to clarify that we think about the anxieties you have, we just think they're stupid things to be anxious about compared to home invasions.
Again, just a difference. Both are valid and rooted in reality, but concern very different areas. Most womens concerns are either personal safety (if alone) or social anxieties, which are extremely necessary since our social value depends on that. You don't want to be too emotional and risk being seen as over dramatic, but you don't want to be too stoic or be ostricized for "looking down" on the other women. It sounds silly, but women can make each others lives hell. There's a reason women are much better at getting both sexes to commit suicide by verbal bullying than anything else.

The worst part is it's also evolutionarily advantageous. A literal pecking order that becomes more and more extreme the more "competition" there are, even if all the women are married.
For fucks sakes, some mothers deliberately make their daughters uglier with awful haircuts and over feeding from insecurities about their partner being more attracted to their own children/prettier than them.

It's very easy to say women's concerns are silly when you don't live by that standard, like how a woman can say it's silly for a man to sleep with a gun in case of robbery, because the chances usually aren't super high of it happening, and even rarer that you would even need the gun to protect yourself.
Neither are wrong, just extremely different and focused on our evolutionary needs.
