Considering what "normal" was, that's not a bad thing. Israel spent several decades fighting an enemy that has always wanted to wipe them out, and they had to do it with their hands tied behind their back at the insistence that coexistence was just around the corner. Meanwhile, Palestine took several decades of humanitarian and financial aid, and used it to turn an entire city into a terrorist base. "Back to normal" would have involved waiting for something that was never going to happen while the Palestinians built up for another terrorist attack.
As for what Gen-Z thinks, the feelings of children pretending that 1960s politics and activism are still relevant don't matter. It doesn't matter what anybody outside of Israel thinks about this war, and they don't give a damn about public relations because they're fighting a war. Not one damned thing is going to change because somebody said the word "apartheid" enough times or took part in enough polls.
i'm not saying that hamas or palestine is running their shit show any better. i've read more than enough posts here to convince me of that, especially the grant ones. I know that isrealians had to fight their neighbors for independence since day one, and that their infrastructure and military are structured way better than their surrounding countries. Isreal has done a lot of genuine good for the world too, in terms of scientific discovery and inventions. plus the galiil rocks. but that doesn't change anything i just said. the IDF still bombed hospitals full innocents because they were also carrying hamas. Innocent civilians don't have a choice in what happens in warfare, none of us have any idea of every individual situation. they could be terrorist sympathizers, or they could be held at gunpoint to tend to the baby beheaders. You can't assume anything when it comes to civilians in war, all you can really do is try and get them out of the area so that they aren't harmed. When you're fighting a guerilla war like this, and you don't know who is and isn't a terrorist, it's time for boots on the ground. convoys, clearing buildings, close air support, surveilance drones, and sparing mortar fire. That's what you do in this situation. you don't throw ordinance around willy nilly at every building that might have an inkling of harboring a baby killer. as a soldier, it's your duty to uphold these standards. You're supposed to be fighting so that others don't have to, and saving the ones who can't. It's your duty.
i'm not pissed off because i'm a dirty muslim who hates jews because they're different, i'm pissed because the US government is giving trillions in aid to fund a nation that won't even do the bare fucking minimum to reduce casualties of people trapped in a shitty situation. Yes, more IDF soldiers would die on the ground compared to just drone striking buildings and calling it a day, but that's war. Your soldiers will inevitably die when they're on the ground, but you plan around this using tactics, equipment, and training. before the second battle of fallujah in iraq, most of the civilians in the area escaped, but there were still thousands of innocents left inside. The US, UK, and iraqi military still chose to kick down every single door and search every single building inside the damn place, even though every room could easily contain an IED or a piece of shit insurgent hopped up on injected adrenaline who killed everyone in the house for his own amusement. they could've chose to just completely level the entire shithole with artillery, but that would mean thousands of innocents would die. I've seen too much war and destruction to ever side with anyone who chooses to say "Fuck the civilians" and don't give a shit if they live or die. I don't care if it's hamas, palestine, isreal, the US, mexico, canada, whatever. I would condemn it regardless. I don't care if the majority of those faggots want me dead because i'm gay, you still don't kill civilians.
