This wasn't for kids, IICR, the girls were supposed to have grown up. But that's another thing: there is also media that makes child characters adults or teens with the purpose of sexualize them without being openly pedos.

Biggest example perhaps is (GOT) Missandei, who's meant to be 9 in the books.

It was planned for an older audience, as you say though the reasons for that often seem to be for the purpose of sexualisation. When someone gives the big three praises for such a show and one of them is "sexy" it's often shorthand for "shit quality but people partially/mostly naked." It tells you there's not enough good about the show itself to talk about.

What the writers and executives were trying to imply is that they're too embarrassed to admit that they love things that were intended for children, so they try to make things 3edgy6u for a modern audience

Doing a show for kids like PPG is also not as easy as people might think. Anyone can make a Barney-like show because it's aimed to babies and toddlers and you know nobody else is gonna watch that besides them and parents who watch with their kids. But shows like PPG, Arnold, Dexter, and, if we go back some years, He-man, She-ra, etc, are aimed to a broader audience: kids from 5 years old to teenagers. The show needs to be easy for kids to follow, and smart enough for teenagers to not get bored. I was in high school when PPG originally aired and people my age watched it as well as younger girls. Same for the other shows I mentioned.

Current shows bore little kids and teenagers rather watch YT content.

Don't forget to include Batman TAS, X-Men TAS, EEnE, Billy & Mandy, KND, SpongeBob, Fairly Oddparents, Invader Zim, Avatar TLA, Ren & Stimpy, Kim Possible, etc. those shows are also aimed to a demographic audience between 5 years olds to teenagers (and possibly college students).

Modern kid shows from 2010s onward are too basic and too safe (as with the case with many other things these days).

That used to be the case (and there still are), but it turns out SJWs, leftists and any high-paid celebrity that had any connection with Jeff Epstein are the ones that are doing political correct shit
