‘Worse Than People Can Imagine’: Medicaid ‘Unwinding’ Breeds Chaos in States
The parents of a disabled man in Tennessee who had been on Medicaid for three decades fought with the state this summer to keep him enrolled as he lay dying from pneumonia in a hospital.
Seven months into what was predicted to be the biggest upheaval in the 58-year history of the government health insurance program for people with low incomes and disabilities, states have reviewed the eligibility of more than 28 million people and terminated coverage for over 10 million of them. Millions more are expected to lose Medicaid in the coming months.
The unprecedented enrollment drop comes after federal protections ended this spring that had prohibited states from removing people from Medicaid during the three pandemic years. Since March 2020, enrollment in Medicaid and the related Children’s Health Insurance Program had surged by more than 22 million to reach 94 million people.

I would be happy to support Israel in their fight against Hamas if only they would turn around and allow and defend the USA to use of similar force and strength to defend US borders and cities.
American Healthcare is never gonna work because they want to have both private and public at the same time. All they end up with is the worst of both worlds with prices like private and service quality like public.
This whole talk of putting boots in the ground in the ME and saber rattling Iran in the middle of such huge crisis at home of confidence, economy and culture reminds me of a story I read once a few years back where the US Government finds itself in a similar situation and they use it to try and "solve domestic problems" along with making sure it all goes to plan.

The man is shrewd but staunch, knows how to build bridges and use leverage.
This "take it or leave it" Israel bill that defunds 87,000 IRS agents indicates he intends to do just that.
It's a matter of how far he is willing to go, but he was elected on the MAGA wave and has a history of firm Trump support and "election denial"

100% this. Due to my type of position, I regularly need to parse hospitals' financial data, especially related to payer mix data. I have yet to see a single US hospital where less then 60% of Medicare/Medicaid patients' procedures were loss leaders. It usually runs around 70% in my experience.

This doesn't count the people who stiff the bills.
I did my time in a crappy neighborhood when I was just starting out.
I have health issues since I was a minor and started re-routing my medical to a better neighborhood nearby, because the sheer weight of bill-stiffers were causing the local hospital to charge MORE "post-insurance" than the other hospital was pre-insurance.

When I worked in a southern state, we'd often get fucked by illegals abusing EMTALA and Stark law by going to our trauma center via the ER, giving fake info, amd eloping as soon as they could. Gotta make up for these costs afterwards sadly.

In local politics, I am so fucking tired of money going out to sportsball. Keeping the Brewers while taxing the county millions of dollars (way more than the share the owners/stakeholders would pay) for repairs to the stadium; now I hear Gov. Evers is approving money for an outdoor soccer stadium. This right after a spot about how you too, can have a Safe Neighborhood initiative - just get 8 of your neighbors together and each pay $20 for enhanced safety measures (??? wat)
Sure, ok pay taxes for playing ball but don't you DARE put any money towards the crime epidemic - that's on you, poors! On top of installing roundabouts and other infrastructure to stop the Kia Boys from driving recklessly - as 2 more people are dead this morning from yet another car crash. 'Cause we all know you can't just throw the perps behind bars dats racist.
In other city news, I am shocked that BLM didn't absolutely POUNCE on the little 5-year old black boy beaten to death by a whitey living in the same house. Maybe the unnamed juvie involved is a groid, who knows.

Local support of sportsball is allegedly to support small businesses near the stadium. However, they’ve done studies and games do basically nothing to support a local economy - it all gets eaten up by the sportsball industrial complex.
You building their infrastructure for them, for free, with tax dollars is simply another entitlement for rich assholes who can already afford to build their own stadium.

October's jobs numbers were shit and surprise surprise, they revised the previous months downward even more. We are in a recession, and they are leaning HARD on the denial of there being jobs only because people are having 2+ jobs now.

It should not be that hard to figure that that a single digit number of home games per year does not meaningfully change the downtown business environment. You know what does? Prosecuting vandalism and vagrancy.
