I don't care if its from 2014 its not expired and I'm not sitting in line at the DMV for 5 hours to get a new ID fuck you now give me the cancer sticks

the fact that Ids expire has always seemed like a scam to me. im still the same age regardless of if my id is expired. and to renew it all is required is that i sit at the dmv for an hour before they print out a new one with the exact same info on it. never made sense to me that i couldn't buy alcohol with an expired license.

Years ago I had an ID that was expired. I got a new job and when they asked for my ID, I told them my ID was expired. "That's not a problem," they told me and I got hired.

When I got paid, I went to the service counter to cash my check. "This ID is expired. Sorry, we can't cash this."

What the fuck. My expired ID was good enough to get me hired but not good enough to cash my check.

Yeah. Like I get it for if you’re buying a car or house, but for booze and smokes? That’s just stupid.

Different standards. Your employer just needed evidence of who you are, you likely provided something alongside it for your I-9 that helped verify your identity and they simply didn't bother with a proper background check (Which is reasonable, that shit costs money). Actually cashing checks requires checking your ID, so if it's expired, it's either not in the system or marked as non-viable, they literally don't have a choice.

The main practical reason when it comes to cigarettes and booze is that older siblings were giving their old, expired IDs to their younger siblings who look similar enough to get away with it, so a lot of people stopped accepting expired IDs. If someone does it and you look old they're just being a dick or autistically following stupid rules.
