Looking Back, I Think ‘Robots’ Was My Gay Awakening

People often reflect on the moments in their childhood they can pinpoint as their sexual or queer awakening. Normally these moments are born from songs or artists, but for me, it was the 2005 film Robots.

Yes, Robots. And no, I wasn’t turned on by the actual robots in the movie. I don’t want to yuck your yum but c’mon, I wasn’t looking at animated pieces of metal thinking ‘oh yeah, this is it’. Instead, I found my young queer self (before I realised what queer even was) attached to one particular scene in Robots: Fender dancing and fighting to Britney Spears’ ‘Baby One More Time’. Yep, doesn’t get much gayer than that I’m afraid.
If you’ve never seen Robots, firstly, I mourn for your childhood. And secondly, some context: the film’s about an inventor who wants to meet Bigweld — a big hotshot in the invention world — but gets tangled up in corporate hell. None of that is important, though, because Fender is the real star. Played by the late Robin Williams, Fender offers endless comedic relief throughout the film, and there’s a great deal of queer appreciation in the performance.

It’s hard to fathom the stronghold one 17-second scene in a 90-minute movie had on me as a child. The scene literally came out of nowhere and is probably one of the most random things in cinema history — but as soon as I watched those 17 seconds play out, I knew my life had changed forever.

When my family was out at sporting events, I would rewind that scene over and over again (I miss DVDs), trying to perfect the dance moves. I would put a t-shirt on my head and wear it like a wig and sing along to Britney Spears. It was actually one of my first introductions to Miss Spears, which then set me on an entirely different chain reaction of homosexuality — but I digress.

Watching the scene back, I remember so clearly just wanting to be Fender. I wanted to be able to break out in song and dance in a skirt, pigtails, and a metal breastplate and belt out “Hit me baby one more time”. My brother, on the other hand, wanted to be one of the ‘strong robots’ who didn’t need Britney to fight anyone off. Boring.

Now I’m thinking about it, there are quite a few queer icons cast in Robots. We’ve got Robin Williams, Amanda Bynes, and the supreme queen Jennifer Coolidge. With all this in mind, I actually believe the purpose of Robots was to make me realise I was gay.

Needless to say, Robots holds a very special place in my heart and is one of the very early memories I have of me finding out who I am. For that, I will always be grateful.

Okay let's not be judgmental of how the writer looks and this silly article, because I am
sure he has some normal people opini-

Anyways, I am begging for adult manchildren to stop consuming media that's aimed for 10 year olds and trying
to find some deep subtext/meaning to a children's cartoon.

We live in a society where men are simply not allowed to mature. This is a combination of feminism destroying the family unit and leaving the child with the mother 90% as well as being raised on mass media as well. Without a proper father to guide them (and even before divorce culture, the quality of men have been steadily declining), you now have boys who are now well into their adulthood doing things regular men from more stable societies are not doing. Which involves working, getting wasted, hating work, being overall retarded but with extra faggotry. And because these boys were raised with feminine traits. A bunch of Steven Universes.

Which in turn, makes them prone to the same lunacy women are into. Which involves feefees and doing shit women do. So its no surprise that some of these lost boys would turn into faggots because of a show.

TL;DR: Peak Fatherless behavior

You gotta be careful with kids' movies. It's horrible. You never know what perverted thing the animators slipped in is going to warp your retarded kid forever.

We all watched silly animated movies as kids. Maybe sometimes characters in those made us feel all kinds of weird. Fortunately, the grand majority of us didn't get hung up on this and grew up to be normal people. Then you have faggots like this guy and fucking furries, who base their entire identity around that one time, when their peepee got hard, while watching some random cartoon.

I wasn’t looking at animated pieces of metal thinking ‘oh yeah, this is it’.

You can only pick one.

According to Linkedin (A), he graduated in 2021. Let's assume it was a bachelor's and estimate his age to be 22 at that time. Robots came out on DVD the same year that it was released in theaters, so that puts the author's age at around 6 or 7 at the time when the DVD would have come out recently. No one would leave a 7 year old alone while they go out to "sporting events", so that brings up the question of what kind of babysitter would watch a 7 year old "put a t-shirt on my head and wear it like a wig and sing along to Britney Spears" which then leads to his "gay awakening"?

I hate it when these faggots take a clearly goofy scene cashing in on the pop culture of the now and make it all about themselves/say it's the gayest thing ever and they're so happy for it. Dude, just come out and say that it was fucking Britney Spears herself who awakened your gayness, because she had a gay following and that was okay. You make yourself look more of a deviant asshole when you say your "awakening" was due to an animated joke scene poking fun of the famous music video. And you don't want to be like Fender because he was a loser. A loveable loser, thanks to Robin Williams' performance, but you shouldn't aspire to be like him.

TL;DR leave Britney Robots alone, you monster faggots. Stop trying to "qweer" it up.

Robot fucker retard, DVD's still exist, you can buy a player at Walmart for 30 bucks
I'm pretty sure that DVDs were out, by then. VHS was still around, of course.

Almost makes me wonder if there's isn't an childhood movie that spergs won't develop an fetish over some random joke?

Well, for one, it raises the question if he actually had issues with the rest of his family
Robots was a really good movie, don't blame it because the author is a degen.
Yeah, it's kind of poetic, in an way; but I wouldn't really call it one of the great ones.
Why is it always kid's movies that these faggots latch onto as their queer awakening? Every single fucking time.
Autism.

The answer is always fucking autism.

Yeah, that was part of the wide adoption of dvds. For someone who wants to fuck a toaster, he seems to know very little on how the machines work, or that things like Redbox are still around and infront of grocery stores
I remember a DVD Rewinder being sold as a gag gift several years back. It'd be different if he was old enough to actually use VHS tapes, most people who used them kept saying "rewind" out of habit to go back to a part of a movie or TV show. Not as much nowadays though.

I think even this is simplifying the issue quite a bit. Around the same time feminism began to take off and mass media truly became the dominant form of culture, a bunch of other social change was happening (at least in America, the viewpoint I'm writing from and solely referring to).

Racial desegregation followed by mandatory bussing forcing kids away from home on the daily for their entire child lives (the practice was made mandatory until the early 90s, I believe?), radical shifts in what the society deemed moral and good- that combined with a generation that saw record-high divorce rates (leading to parents barely doing any parenting and the kid constantly being disoriented and arguably developmentally stunted), extreme advances of technology shrinking into shorter and shorter spaces of time (a kid born in the mid-to-late-60s would've gone from having to watch shit only in theatres/on tv to owning video cassettes to owning dvds and possibly a computer or video game system within solely his childhood and young adulthood; not even going to mention shit like space travel, mobile phones, massive advances in medicine, increased automation, etc)...

Combining this further with things like diversity quotas (coming around shortly after desegregation) and the subsequent degradation of an individual's qualifications in favor of rewarding them based off arbitrary and immutable factors determined at birth is probably still not taking everything into account. Lots and lots of shit led to the near-immediate dissolution of the family unit, but I don't think solely feminism and bad parenting is to blame. Probably makes up a decent part of it, though.
