I don't think the "Barb's got dementia" excuse is really going to fly unless she really deteriorated since March. Remember, last time this "credit card lawsuit" thing went around, everyone had high hopes that 14BLC would be repo'd or at the very least Chris would be forced to give up his "life upgrade" for payment of bills, but in the end, Barb showed up and paid the $5000 or so just to get them off her back (for now).

Chris-Chan: The Ride

(More on-topic edit): So what's the deal here legally? Surely you can't expect a woman with dementia to pay some crazy ass debt, and you can't give it to her next of kin... Who foots this bill?

You actually can expect her to pay it from what I understand. Especially due to the fact that even if she has dementia, she has very recently been aware enough to shoo away cops doing welfare checks.

Might she have paid off the other debt through some elaborate usage of another card?

You mean like a balance transfer? Possible, with barb and credit who knows how bad she's in.

But as it seems blood's in the water at this point it may be a few months for each to get their name in the hat so to speak but I assume this isn't the end.

@Marvin said Barb is on a payment plan with Discover Bank.

Ah. Well, either way, she did manage to respond and deal with the problem, and to an extent that's what I expect to happen out of this incident.
She managed to stave it off for a bit. They're still in an uncomfortable situation, financially. I'm pretty conservative about predicting when Chris and Barb's financial meltdown will happen, because yeah, you're right, Barb's able to handle things and stretch the problems out for a long time.

But when that happened, Chris' begging and whining went up a lot. It showed Barb was putting pressure on him.

Assuming this new lawsuit is for a big chunk of change, it still might not be enough to sink the Chandlers. Barb's gonna make some sort of payment plan, try to find more loans for Chris to take out, and manage to scrape by, for now. But still, I'm excited. Things are getting progressively shittier for the Chandlers.
