Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I hate this imposition most of the RPG fanbase has on RPGs being about the story
I wish there were some kind of semi-agree react because this doesn't make any sense to me (the whole point of an RPG is to play through a story as one of the characters), but I more or less agree with the other responses you made below. Doom 3 was really a completely different genre of game.

I play RPGs for what I mentioned earlier, the god complex thing, the apotheosis process. I just want to pump numbers, fuck around with numbers, create builds and just obliterate gameworld stuff from enemies to towns to npcs. RPGs to me are a power fantasy basically. Which is why I think the Souls Trilogy is the best batch of RPGs ever personally. If Dungeon Crawlers count I would say Torchlight II and Diablo II.

As far as Bioshock goes, I loved it, I loved the story and setting, I loved the novelization that went with it. But I don't think it's some high art. There's a few games I do think are genuinely smart, but it's not really one. It amazes me that people (Leftards that do nothing but play games) think it's some brutal takedown of Objectivism, but all it really says, that I remember, is that because there wasn't welfare/worker's rights the poor people got so poor that they revolted and tore it down, and it's muddled up with a bunch of magic superpower bullshit. It's certainly one way something like that can turn out, but it's not like some finely-written classic dystopian novel where the contradictions of an ideology bring the ideology down, or the ideology is explored in its full horror, or anything. It's just a decent horror-lite game where you walk around shooting things, gaping at some spectacular scenery, and listening to people spout off propaganda. It's "smart" by video games but it's way below the level of what you'd get in pretty much any other medium. Which is par for the course for vidya stories.
I loved Levine's reaction on Elizabeth SFMs

Microsoft will make Activision make more shit. No-one is talking how Microsoft just won the lol suit

I don't like Activision or Blizzard they can crash and burn for all I care

Fallout and Bioshock are two series that I enjoyed when they were new that've been just so surrounded with gay bullshit from all corners of the internet that I just don't want to hear about them ever again. I retroactively do not enjoy them.

Bioshock aged really poorly, anyway. The first game is a muddy-looking pretentious mess and Infinite is made for Redditors. I had fun with the second game, played it all the way through, can barely remember anything about it. I don't even think it had a final boss, it just kind of ended out of the blue. There were a bunch of points where you had to defend a Little Sister while she extracted Adam from a dead guy and those were pretty tough. That's about all I can recall. And that was the best game of that terrible series.
Bioshock 2 really is the only title in the series that's remotely worth to play. The first gameplay trailer for Infinite still remains as the worst bait&switch in video game history.
Problem is crpgs were I think ground zero for sjw gamedevs back in the 90s and most crpg teams were filled with failed writers who wanted to be something bigger.
That's spot on. Prime example is Chris Avellone, i dislike this dude's prose as much as Gaiman's.

Activision consistently makes content for their games. Unlike Bungo who never cared that much about about destiny in the first place.

Im sick of this anti-activision narrative when there are easily far worse offenders in the industry. Activision never implemented sunsetting/removal of paid content to then trickle back into the game while nickel and diming players like bungie does.
>Comparing shit to filth
Shit is still shit.
Filth is still filth.

Looking at shit doesn't make filth better.

We all know the faggot watches 8 hours long video essays on youtube about "gaming design" when he uses retarded terms like "orthogonal enemy design".
Do you know what it is though, its a very sensible concept lmao. It just refers to enemies which have big variations in visual design, attack patterns, movement and method of tackling, making every combat scenario an entity identification and problem solving situation. Doom was the thing which popularized the concept cause each monster in Doom look/behave different, require a different strat to tackle and require prioritization when put in one situation. All good SP shooters require such design to make the combat situations fun to do. Its not like cod or Far Cry when you shoot virtually indistinguishable cannon fodder enemies with no proper strat.

That's a good summary of everything positive I could ever say about Infinite. If I were trapped on an island with absolutely no other games but Bioshock Infinite, I could still extract some enjoyment out of it. A tiny bit. I doubt I'd finish it even if I were trapped there for like a decade. I'd end up really damn good at swimming and fishing, yet still have a save that's at like 30% completion by the time I get rescued.

But that's not the case, and we all have literally tens of thousands of games we can play right this second, so I have no room in my life for those games ever again.

My one issue with the Switch is the fragile controllers. Well, the fragile everything, but the controllers really put me off. I've really gravitated so much more towards PC nowadays, and it's nice to know that I can use any controller I own, ever, as long as I can adapt it to USB. I could plug in my ancient-ass childhood Gamecube controller and just make do if I really needed to.

Kind of ironic that the most kiddy console has the most fragile everything, isn't it? We're a far, far cry away from the durability of the Gulf War Game Boy.

It's just another symptom of how disposable electronics are now. They want you to keep buying replacements so they keep making money. Having a single electronic item last for decades isn't profitable for anyone but you.

Their point was that only a raging faggot uses a term like "orthogonal enemy design" instead of something easily understandable such as "visually and mechanically distinct enemies" or, perhaps just "varying enemies."

Fair, that is true, most of my game design knowledge comes from shitty YouTube videos and gaming Bibles/design docs. Orthogonal design is something I first heard in GMTKs doom video.

Didn't Super Mario Bros. do that well before Doom? And probably plenty of earlier games, but SMB comes to mind.

still enjoy Fallout, and I won't let a bunch of trannies and SJWs ruin the enjoyment. That being said, I never thought Bioshock 1 was any good,
I remember enjoying my first run through Bioshock 1 but have never ever been able to make it past the first area since. The gunplay is ass and the environment is all the game really has going for it.

Probably, but it's a bit more complicated in doom than in mario ig which is why doom got the label first. Cause in doom there's the basic hitscanners, the basic projectile enemies, the tank projectiles, the tank melee and the archvile. The tank enemies have a higher pain chance (chance of not shooting after being shot) than the normal enemies and require a chaingun/plasma cannon for easy dispatch cause of high fire rate. Hitscanners require prioritisation cause hitscan. There's the blowback and splash damage of some projectiles, things like that. I'm sure there's a ton more nuances in strat, movement and damage output. Mario generally has one solution for most enemies, just jump on them independant of enemy type, if not fireballs. But from an enemy design standpoint yeah it probably fits the bill. It's probably an fps design tenet which is why I've seen it being used for stuff like Halo combat evolved where the grunts are different from the jackals, the elites are different from the hunters, grunts always run away behind bigger enemies, hunters always travel in pairs, elites have different classes, flood always travels in a horde etc etc etc.

It can barely even run the original release version of Skyrim at a stable framerate, and it's actually the worst way to play Skyrim (somehow worse than the PS3 version!) to boot.
The Switch isn't for anyone looking to do some legit gaming, it's for children (which is fine), and for soyboys who refuse to grow up (which is not).
I don't consider playing Skyrim to be legit gaming

I guess if you're the kind of person who thinks 160 FPS is the minimum you are probably also the kind of person who never leaves the house, and thus, have weak constitution.

Real men were forged in the time of CRTs and sub 20 frames, where you couldn't even tell what you were shooting at but you dealt with it because it was the only distraction you had from your parents' imminent divorce.

Nothing visually in a game makes me physically ill or have pain because I drank milk growing up, but I do hate the way motion blur looks.
I'm too tired to photoshop it so you'll have to do it in your head but this is basically new PC gamers vs old PC gamers:
garden plants but they're gamers now.jpeg
