This may be unpopular, but I think AI-created fiction could not only be worth consuming but in some ways would be extra enjoyable because of the marvel of how it's made. It may not have a human touch but I wouldn't consume all AI-created or all human-created, I'd enjoy the best of each for their own differences.

A year and a half ago we had that Dalli, or whatever it was called, program. You would put in a short description and it would fire back 6 images containing blobs that kinda looked like what you asked for. Now we can have photo realistic images of Bernie Sanders necking with naked hooker. AI has come leaps and bounds from where it was. Human progression is kind of an amazing thing. The first heavier than air flight was December 17, 1903 and we were sending people into space in 1961. That's 58 years from not being able to leave the ground to leaving the planet. 46 years later we were introduced to the first iPhone. Now we have this new frontier that's filled with a bunch of people who are really into it and they're doing it for free just so they can get better porn. The stuff we have now can be pretty schizophrenic because the AI does not understand what makes something human but in 3-4 years I think we'll see some shocking headway.

Insofar as formulaic and derivative, I look at the landscape of media today and that's all I see. Indiana Jones and the Broken Hearing Aid. Jurassic World: I Clapped When I Saw It. Another Disney Jukebox Musical. Capeshit Movie 1,03,481,777. A coming of age tale about a 12 year old girl who fingers herself while thinking of girls.

I think the media companies painted themselves into a corner with streaming because now they just need content so they get whatever dipshit they can to throw something on a screen which is how we all got into this mess in the first place. I'm not so certain that replacing the writers with AI would be that detrimental. You'll have a hard time convincing me that the last Jurassic World movie would've been worse if current chat GPT had written the script for it. All of this disposable media has been created by people who've never worked outside of the industry and believe they're owed something just because they shat something on a piece of paper that nobody asked for in the first place while creating nothing of value.

Fuck these people.

The problem with these learning sets, and turning that toward writing scripts, is the studios will no doubt include the current year drivel in with the classics, and there has been a lot of drivel lately. That will taint the set and it will shit out the same garbage the writers are turning out now.

The good news for the studios is the AI programs don't need benefits or a salary- they just require some power to generate output, and can iterate much faster than writers.

Very possible but I mean they're already doing that now. I do think, however, that most of the bullshit comes from the boots on the ground, the directors/writers/whatever, and not the execs. You replace writers with AI and you got a thing whose sole purpose is to create a script where a superhero who fights crime who faces trials and tribulations and punches a blue laser at the end. If they fag it up by neutering their AI by giving it woke Asimov's rules like "no harm must ever come to a person of color and Asians are white" then it'll be super obvious and no one will watch it, just like hundreds of other shows and movies that they've already made like that. It'll hasten Hollywood's demise. A bunch of rich pedophiles who want to control my life and media dying a disgraceful death brought on by their own greedy hubris? I am very comfy with that.

I clicked through that video. It could be 5 minutes long, easily, boiled down to "if the writers aren't here who's gonna write? the studios are so stoopid!" and "I want real stories written by humans filled with emotion."

Also the answer to both questions is simple. Just drag in homeless people off the street and give them food in exchange for scripts. It can't be worse than most of the shit those writers are putting on paper.

That script was clearly not written by an AI. It is funny by it's obviously fake and gay if you've used any storywriting AI. It was made up by a comedian who then posted it on twitter claiming it to be AI-made. The misspellings and puns too perfectly line up with typical jokes regarding Batman, as well as the fact that it has a coherent storyline and character behaviors, which script writing AIs only ever do by accident when writing stories.
 
The SAG strike looks like it might happen at midnight PST, although they seem to be trying to stop it by bringing in outside negotiators. This dropped on Deadline:

EXCLUSIVE: Regardless of whether SAG-AFTRA goes on strike this week, the studios have no intention of sitting down with the Writers Guild for several more months.

“I think we’re in for a long strike, and they’re going to let it bleed out,” said one industry veteran intimate with the POV of studio CEOs.

With the scribes’ strike now finishing its 71st day and the actors’ union just 30 hours from a possible labor action of its own, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are planning to dig in hard this fall before even entertaining the idea of more talks with the WGA, I’ve learned. “Not Halloween precisely, but late October, for sure, is the intention,” says a top-tier producer close to the Carol Lombardini-run AMPTP.

While some dismiss this as just “cynical strike talk,” studio and streamer sources around town confirm the strategy. They also confirm that the plan to grind down the guild has long been in the works for a labor cycle that all sides agree is a game-changer one way or another for Hollywood.

“It’s been agreed to for months, even before the WGA went out,” one executive said. “Nobody wanted a strike, but everybody knew this was make or break.”

Receiving positive feedback from Wall Street since the WGA went on strike May 2, Warner Bros Discovery, Apple, Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Paramount and others have become determined to “break the WGA,” as one studio exec blatantly put it.

To do so, the studios and the AMPTP believe that by October most writers will be running out of money after five months on the picket lines and no work.

“The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses,” a studio executive told Deadline. Acknowledging the cold-as-ice approach, several other sources reiterated the statement. One insider called it “a cruel but necessary evil.”

The studios and streamers’ next think financially strapped writers would go to WGA leadership and demand they restart talks before what could be a very cold Christmas. In that context, the studios and streamers feel they would be in a position to dictate most of the terms of any possible deal.


The severe method comes out of the guild’s successful battle with the agencies in 2021 over dismantling the lucrative practice of packaging. The WGA picked off one agency after another until final holdout WME backed down, a tactic seen as a warning sign by many in the studio and streamer C-suites.

Convinced that “giving in,” as another insider put it, to the writers will result in every contract cycle from the WGA, IATSE, the Teamsters and more ending in a strike, the AMPTP is aiming for the bottom line.

Since the WGA called its first strike in 15 years in early May, there have been no discussions between the AMPTP and the guild despite persistent public guild offers to meet. Sources close to the AMPTP insist there has been no direct offer from the WGA leadership to resume talks.

Still, as pickets went up and productions shut down in the strike’s early weeks, studio bosses almost uniformly offered banal praise to the writers but no public proposals to get the them back to work. In the meantime, as network schedules shift to unscripted shows and streamers buy up foreign content, the studios and streamers have been saving money on shuttered productions and cost-cutting.

On a parallel track and reinforcing the AMPTP’s divide-and-conquer approach, negotiations with the Director’s Guild in late May proved a success, with ratification coming last month. Even if the 160,000-member SAG-AFTRA joins the WGA on the picket lines, the studios hope to get the actors back to the negotiating table in a few weeks.

A new SAG-AFTRA deal would not see production restart, but it could allow actors to promote projects already set for release. A move that studios hope would further the WGA going into the latter part of the year.

Neither the AMPTP nor the WGA responded to request for comment today from Deadline. If or when they do we will update this post.

While I think this is accurate, it's clearly timed to scare people right before the SAG strike. I will say that if the actors actually do it they'll probably get a deal very quickly and the writers will have to wait.

Bro I tried to watch this to give him a shot but that opener made me hate him so much. He has 4 million subs, this video has 2.9 million views in just under 2 months, and I have never heard of him before. He might be legit content creator but to me he stinks of being one of those asshole Youtube created brands. The writers had their chance to get me on their side but every single person that was highlighted in an article, pro WGA btw, was some incompetent fuckwad who was upset that they weren't getting any more money for a a show that was pulled from circulation because literally no one watched it. The shows that are still around are the ones like I listed in the OP about the guy who stole kambucha while writing and directing a 90's coming of age story about the girl he wanted to fuck in his high school finding out that she's a lesbian after masturbating over the women's underwear section of the Sear's catalog.

I understand that there are people who are concerned about the prospects of media if this whole thing goes south. I simply do not care and actively cheer for Hollywood's entire and painful dismantling. Beyond the exploitativeness, the kid diddling, the preaching, and the control that these media companies have, and all of those are terrible and alone make their demise worthwhile, it's the consooming that has turned me from watching from the stands and eating my popcorn to me grabbing a gas can to pour on them all.
 
I would have a lot more sympathy for the strikers if American television hadn’t been absolute dogshit for the past 10 years.
