The Shin Megami Tensei/Persona Thread

I'm actually quite interested in P3 remake, considering it's both me and my wife's personal favorite. I actually just started replaying P3 Fes sometimes ago, after seeing my wife replaying P3P. But alas, considering the current state of game industry, I can't help but to feel cautiously optimistic about this. P3 remake with it's every mechanics revamped for the better without any catch or bullshit new features seems too good to be true.

On the other note, I played Tokyo Mirage Session on Switch. I'm yet to finish it, but I'm on the very last leg of the story. It's surprisingly fun, and on the contrary of some opinions, while it can be summarized as Persona, but with Fire Emblem characters instead of mythical creatures or legendary figures, it's actually vastly different from Persona series, both in term of story progression and combat. The story progression is pretty linear and streamlined, which I found refreshing compared to current games that more often than not takes a while for the story to make a real progress. The combat is pretty fun, with reminiscent of DDS (3 party members) and Strange Journey (hitting weaknesses triggering follow up attacks from other members, both active and inactive, and even from a few non playable ccharacters). What's's not fun is the amount of unnecessary backtracking during some side quests and that most of them only give you a measly reward.

The skill acquisition is a bit akin to DDS' mantra system, although this time, it's weapon that can be made/upgraded with material dropped by enemies instead of grids of skill sets you can buy. Unfortunately, you can't save skills and set them as you please like in DDS. So when a character's skill slot is full, you must forfeit an existing skill if you want to learn a new one. You can relearn skill through weapon upgrade, but it's quite a chore. Later on, each character can learn innate skill that add skill slot.

The characters are on the norm of anime JRPG. The boring, everyman MC, the ditzy main heroine, his hot blooded best friend, the tsundere half-Japanese, the grade schooler girl who is a powerhouse in combat, and so on. The MC really irritates me. He is a borderland Mary Sue that can do almost anything whether it's singing, acting, or making a song, instantly liked by everyone (especially the female casts), and seems can't do any wrong. I actually liked the side story where a character expressing jealousy over him being always praised by the female casts, and his hot blooded best friend also calling it if inflicted by confusion during combat. The main heroine is far more interesting, with her actually involved with some of the main plot, and we actually see her growing from a mere fangirl into a respectable idol herself.

All in all, despite some flaws, it's a solid SMT game in itself, with fun combat system and exploration not unlike mainline SMT. The graphics is also pretty good. It's holding up pretty well for basically a Wii U game from 2015. Certainly more polished than many game relesed in the current years.

I'm still made they basically forgot to write character dialog and a story for SMT V while giving a very persona vibe to it then went "uhhhh no one likes SMT games!"

Like no shit...you basically made half a game and the only appeal it had was to people who like creature collecting and theorybuilding monsters. And even that was far too easy to blow through the main game with.

The new Persona 3 UI looks like shit.

Persona 5 was the worst thing to happen to the franchise and wider SMT.
I like 5 and I completely agree.

The P3 remake is shaping up to be exactly what I imagine the worst possible remake would be. I hope I'm wrong, but I ain't holding my breath.

No content added in FES, or Portable will be in the remake. Yes, that includes the female protagonist.

What a joke. InB4 they release a version a year, or so from now called Persona 3 Reload Royal, or whatever that actually includes all that shit.
Lmao fuck this. I want a female lead. Jesus its not that difficult Altus.

The new woke cast is.....lbdshkkhuv fuck. They even got a non binary twat. Stupid. NOTHING can replace Tara or Liam. I want to know exactly what they did to brainwash Yuri into giving the role over too.

I suggest everyone skip it.

Sad that Vic will no longer voice Jumpei and Michelle wont voice Yukari. seems like everyone is getting replaced. hell, seems like a troon will be the voice of Ken. not a fetish btw.

but hey, maybe we wont need them to do the voices after all...

i like the game but i wont ignore its faults either. god forbid if a 5 fanboy hears you slander his favorite game he played once on easy mode or hell, maybe never played it at all.
Or have played it multiple times, and still have no idea what actually happened in it.

Real talk, I have never seen a game whose fanbase is so fucking media illiterate. They get basic plot points wrong even when the game explicitly tells them what happened.

It doesn't help that they'll just make shit up too, and post it on the game's wikia, and it'll stay up months on end because no one ever bothers to fact-check it.

What I'm saying is that Atlus is catering to the absolute worst part of their audience.

The last time Atlus did that in P3P, they also had to add social links to half the male cast.

You think they're gonna bother doing something that requires literally any effort? Adding back FemC means making a couple extra character models and writing/rewriting like five social links, and if you think these lazy fuckers are gonna bother, than you're out of your mind.

Its funny, because since P3P came out later and the FemC actually fleshed out the male cast, I'd argue that her version of P3 is just straight up better. It also adds the most over the top cameo I can think of in a Persona game, with Yukiko just popping up in the plot, vommiting out a bunch of exposition to set up her arc in 4, mentions Chie, and then unceremoniously exits the plot never to return.

They also replace Mass Destruction with Wiping all Out, which is the biggest unforced error I've ever seen.

what i hate about Japanese media is how they over-explain everything and have to repeat the same thing they just said five minutes ago. every time i go, "GOD! IT GET I! DID THEY MAKE THIS GAME/ANIME FOR CHILDREN!?"

but considering the intelligence of the average weeb, i understand why it is like that.

Gonna say it

3 >>> 5

I can't wait for them to release 3 extra games from persona 3 ontop of reloaded.

Persona 3: Reloaded Fe (Female MC edition)
Persona 3: Reloaded FES ( The answer )
Persona 3: Reloaded FeS (The answer Female MC Edition )

Each version will cost 70 bucks USD a pop and they'll buy it just like people buy almost every edition of Skyrim.

Big downer that P3 won't be a "complete version". I already played P4 and P5 only for there to come enhanced versions later. So even though I'd love to play this day 1, I'll wait for the enhanced version, whatever form it takes.

As for the fantasy game... that shit is catnip for me, so I'll proudly take my puzzle pieces and say I'm kind of hype for that one.

P5 tactics I give 0 shits about. Only spinoff I want to play is Scramble and I don't know if I should honestly bother.
