🤝 Community Tard Baby General (includes brain dead kids) - Fundies and their genetic Fuckups; Parents of corpses in denial

For people that are just disabled, not terminally ill or potatoes, and able to live somewhat independently, it's cheaper on the taxpayers to provide housing and support/care in the communities than house those people in institutions or jail.

A lot went wrong with deinstitutionalizion (namely the community-based supports that were supposed to replace institutions largely never materialized), but the institutions were shut down for a reason. Unfortunately, jails and prisons are effectively taking the place of institutions for warehousing disabled and mentally ill people instead of giving them the supports they actually need.

You're technically right, but it takes an certain type of people who would actually do their jobs and these are kind of rare. Like, being perfectly willing to take care of someone who's literally unable to do much of anything but whine about how miserable they are on social media.

Well, demand is already outstripping supply, in an way. But if we're talking about prison, it kinda depends on what they're in for. Sure, every now and then, someone snaps and goes on an killing spree; or that an local transient is destroying shit out of paranoia or from having too much of something.

But mental healthcare is an bit of an two-way transaction and there really isn't much of anything else that can be done with those who fall out of the system outside of warehousing them or just forcing to fend for themselves

you should watch A Lion In The House. Maybe your attitude will change. It shows several kids with terminal cancer. Only in one case was a kids life “prolonged” and the family kicked themselves for it. But the child wasn’t little, he was 19 and thus capable of making his own medical decisions until he couldn’t anymore. The other kids were younger. One kid died alone because his mother couldn’t be assed to deal with the reality of the situation. The hospital staff were pretty mad about it even.
One of my relatives was in this situation and fought for his life like a goddamn hero. Leukemia. From about the age of 12. He still went on to graduate high school with honors and was working on a degree, despite increasing misery. Died in fucking agony, was still acing all his courses when he couldn't do it any more.

I hate the fucking world when I think about it.

That’s terrible, and I’m sorry. My uncle had non Hodgins lymphoma, then leukemia from the chemo, then a recurrence, then myelofibrosis. It was awful.

Now I got a family member with stage II lung cancer (non small cell/adenocarcinoma) at age 88 from all her years of smoking and she’s choosing radiation only. She’s diabetic with chf so she couldn’t handle chemo.

My grandfather also had lung cancer with a whole lung removed, only for it to come back and my grandma (his wife) had vascular dementia and would chainsmoke in front of him.

Cancer is evil.

Yeah, like wtf do you do if you’re disabled because of a freak accident? Or if you have some condition ultrasound didn’t pick up prenatal? Newborn screenings don’t cover Marfans, MMA, fragile x, etc. where’s the line drawn?
I support public healthcare in general and live in a country with it. I support it for all those things and obviously, no one can penalize them for having something that could not be screened for or a freak accident.
However, with conditions like DS that are obvious and will be a lifelong burden on the healthcare system and could be prevented with termination, the parents should be on the hook for it if they really want their spud that bad. Or at least intense counseling like Iceland.
And let me tell you, it isn’t the just potato babies that are a burden. Alzheimer’s is effing expensive.
It's terrible too. There is actually a dementia support thread here that I've posted in a bit. Canada is considering expanding euthanasia to advance directives so people who do not want to live with dementia will have their wishes respected. I support that.
People are all "grandma just forgets a bit lol" until she can no longer remember the purpose of utensils. These people live in intense discomfort, frustration and fear.
It's sad in a different way from potatoes though bc some of these people were brilliant, successful people and all they can do is regress further until death. It's worse than caring for a kid who is always getting more, not less independent.

That’s a slippery slope. If you say people with DS should pay privately for their care, where do you draw the line? Should low functioning autistic people kids also have the same burden? What about those with anoxic brain injuries? Is it just kids or should adults who are disabled also pay? People like Jack Scalfani, for example. Or people with CF, who need expensive medical care due to their disease.

I understand what you’re saying, I just don’t know if it’s really practical.

It appears the appropriate asspats were not given to Paisleys mother for her last post so it had to be removed.

It's true and there certainly are some (((types))) who are looking for any excuse to defend public healthcare. Not all anoxic injuries and obviously freak accidents can be prevented so it would be totally unfair to defund those. Autism unfortunately cannot be screened for yet either, compared to DS which is easier than ever to diagnose in the womb.
Jacks are another can of worms. I know the UK was (or was considering) restricting surgeries for smokers and the obese. There is the possibility of restricting care while they take a weight management program or something, except for emergencies but then you have to worry about if non-obesity conditions would get neglected or even obesity related like T2D where the complications like your leg rotting off have to be minimized.
CF at least has treatments that are getting better and they can contribute to the world financially and take care of themselves (wipe their own bum for example). IDK if we will ever be able to minimize all the health risks of Down's or the intellectual disability.
Now I'm just imagining if Jack was a potato like the Hartley Hooligans. :smug:

Actually, several genetic disorders cause autism. There are genes associated with ASD. They are: ARID1B, ASH1L, CHD2, CHD8, DYRK1A, POGZ, SHANK3, and SYNGAP1. Plus ADNP. Although, these genetic issues are rare, occurring in 2 to 4 percent of those with ASD, and accompanying significant issues

I dunno, excluding one group of people just seems like a vendetta, esp because DS is a spectrum like anything else and it is sometimes de novo.

As for Paisley…..every day must be torture for her. They call TD death bearing for a reason.

Over 25% of autism diagnoses are profoundly retarded. As for DS, its the same as with Autism you don't hear as much about the bad cases but they are far more common then the mild cases you see.

In 2016, the proportion of autistic children in the U.S. with an average or higher IQ was 42 percent, according to the most recent autism prevalence data published by the Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2020.

The new study, however, suggests that this number could be as high as 59 percent.

Of the 890 individuals for whom the records contained IQ data and who met the inclusive definition of autism, 59 percent had an IQ score that was average or higher — defined in the study as 86 or above. The same was true for 51 percent of the 453 people who met the narrow definition. By contrast, only 43 percent of the 187 people with a clinical diagnosis had an average or higher IQ score. The study appeared in November in Pediatrics

Either way, even people who are profoundly mentally retarded deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and to have the supports they need to live as healthy and happy lives as possible.

Caregivers also need to get paid much more, as well as given much more thorough screenings to keep away abusers. More severely disabled people are at especially high risk of abuse, especially people who can't speak verbally.

I think even someone with severe intellectual disabilities can live a good life, they just have to have the right supports and loved ones who care about them. I don't think disabled children should be born into situations they aren't wanted though, because that's not fair to them.

How much do you expect to pay people to get paid in order to solve this trainwreck's problems?

Yeah, but you also can't rule out stuff like self-injury or the set occasional self-destructive habits that they develop to meet their own needs once those abuse allegations starts rolling in.

Totally not the point, but your link made me hopeful about a new Reddit cow, but then when I went to her profile, she doesn’t have that many posts, and I was so disappointed. Sad face.

I'm just saying that posts like hers is the new norm when it comes to welfare and someone is actually being paid to think for her.

No, I got that, but it was also hilarious. I’m sure being someone with BPD, ADHD, and autism sucks, if, indeed, she actually has all that and isn’t just a self-diagnosing attention-seeker, but that person being an overly self-aware terminally online genderspecial is entertaining in a way that I assume, on Kiwi Farms, doesn’t need explaining.
