Regulators close New York’s Signature Bank, citing systemic risk - Just saw some cyptobros on here..

U.S. regulators on Sunday shut down New York-based Signature Bank in a bid to prevent the spreading banking crisis.

“We are also announcing a similar systemic risk exception for Signature Bank, New York, New York, which was closed today by its state chartering authority,” Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC said in a joint statement Sunday evening.

The banking regulators said depositors at Signature Bank will have full access to their deposits, a similar move to ensure depositors at the failed Silicon Valley Bank will get their money back.

“All depositors of this institution will be made whole. As with the resolution of Silicon Valley Bank, no losses will be borne by the taxpayer,” the regulators said.

The regulators shuttered Silicon Valley Bank on Friday and seized its deposits in the largest U.S. banking failure since the 2008 financial crisis — and the second-largest ever. The dramatic moves come just days after the tech-focused institution reported that it was struggling, triggering a run on the bank’s deposits.

Signature is one of the main banks to the cryptocurrency industry. It had a market value of $4.4 billion as of Friday, according to FactSet. The stock had fallen nearly 40% this year after its crypto banking peer Silvergate Capital liquidated its bank.

As of Dec. 31, Signature had $110.4 billion in total assets and $88.6 billion in total deposits, according to a securities filing.

To stem the damage and stave off a bigger crisis, the Fed and Treasury created an emergency program to backstop deposits at both Signature Bank and Silicon Valley Bank using the Fed’s emergency lending authority.

While depositors will have access to their money, equity and bondholders at both banks are being wiped out, a senior Treasury official said.

Hopefully the government doesn't fuck up the recovery so badly (by doing literally anything other than just letting it run its course, which sadly all odds say won't happen) that another WW2 will be needed to save the economy...I don't think we would survive WW3.

We were in soft-WW2 in the 1930s with Japan's invasion of China, and the US' continued sanctions on them. Sound familiar?

We've been in soft-WW3 since 2019 or so when US and Russian troops clashed in Syria. It's firmed up quite a bit since Feb. of last year, and it's pretty much one dead "Military Advisory Command-Special Operations Group" away from a full hot war with Russia. It's no longer "4 HIMARS and 10 M777s and a handful of worn out M113s to Ukraine" they're sending new build Strykers and refurbed M1A2s, and probably Bradleys. I'd guess unless the Russians collapse and retreat fully that US fighter jets with "instructors" and "advisors" will be next on the grocery list for Zelenskyy. Then it'll be a full blown hot war.

Thing is, that war? We've been preparing for that war and fighting its opening notes since (checking history book) 1947. WW2 was a "Whoa what the fuck?!" when we had to go from making Chryslers and refrigerators and radios to B17s and Shermans and Garands, didi. We peaked in production as the war was ending. For WW3 we have been at peak production since the end of WW2, waiting for a chance to cry havoc and let slip etc.

Assuming the Russians just let themselves get buttfucked on the nightly news like Saddam did (another one of the opening acts for WW3, btw, the '91 and '03 invasions), all we'll do is shoot off/use up/fly to pieces the extant stocks. Nothing will benefit. Oh, you might see a little post-war boom on optimism and Raytheon, Lockmarket, and GDLS' "Win on Sunday Sell on Monday" benefits, but you won't see a "Holy God we're swimming in money" moment like you did during and juuuuuust after WW2.

A tanking economy now, a hot, conventional WW3 in a few months or a year...means the US will become a perfect police state afterward (it's near perfect now).

But note what I said "assuming the Russians collapse" and "a hot conventional war". Personally I think a failing, ailing Putin would not hesitate to throw a theater nuke or four if NATO gets in.

And if that happens brothers and sisters all the complaining we do here, all the griping on are sail fawns...not gonna make a goddamn bit of difference. You've got .22lr or 5.56 and a couple months of canned goods and some gold and silver? That's cute. How close to a primary site are you? That's the question you should ask. Because even if you're not in the blast footprint you sure as fuck are in a fallout zone unless you're somewhere in the Oregon backwoods.

tl;dr the old man of the forums is telling you that your black pills aren't black enough.

Doom post, but...

Over the last few years the western world has been programmed to panic react to any bad news. Be it a virus, lockdowns or shortages. Look at the toilet paper shortage meme and what that led to, the panic buying of lockdowns and in the UK the fuel shortage which led to hour long queues at petrol stations.

Now tell America that their banks are closing while the Western world looks on. How many people will pikachu-face when banks see massive withdrawals happen over the next week or so?

Yes banks can fail and you will be the one paying the price.
Reminder to get some Monero. Be your own bank.

Yo, @mlanguishi fix the OP.

You got it right with the thread title, link, and archive; but you should copy/paste the whole of the article.

I don't think we have the capacity to manage a WW3, let alone survive it. Just looking at how we depleted a number of stockpiles for Ukraine, some of our newest tech still isn't working and have been perpetual money sinks, glorified women in positions who immediately crash said tech, every branch trying to find way to fill slots for bodies to include bumping the age of enlistment up to 40 and the Navy straight wiping a failed PT/height weight off the books to keep you. Then throw in how much of our actual manufacturing is overseas, and a number of it is in China, who is on much better terms with Russia.

We literally cannot wage a proper war; we can do instructors and advisors, and do SEAL / CIA hit squads, maybe with an airstrike or two, but we cannot wage a proper fucking war. At least not a prolonged one.

Remember the CIA had total control over the idpol movements from the start:

"The Feminist Was a Spy"

Gloria Steinem’s new book, My Life on the Road, recounts her life’s journeys and travels. Early reviews and profiles reveal incredible detail of Steinem’s barrier-breaking feminist role, liberal politics, romances, proclivities and style.

What is often missed, or mischaracterized, however, is the work she did as a CIA agent: Steinem was a spook.

CIA agents are tight-lipped, but Steinem spoke openly about her relationship to The Agency in the 1950s and ’60s after a magazine revealed her employment by a CIA front organization, the Independent Research Service.

While popularly pilloried because of her paymaster, Steinem defended the CIA relationship, saying: “In my experience The Agency was completely different from its image; it was liberal, nonviolent and honorable.”

Less cloak-and-dagger and more a young, energetic, global representative for American values and freedom, Steinem leveraged her underwriting to attend international youth festivals organized and otherwise ideologically dominated by America’s adversaries.

Long before the formalized concept of soft power, Steinem personified and promoted abroad the vigor and progressive nature of the U.S. youth movement.

Strange as it may seem, Steinem’s personal views and CIA political goals aligned. Her brand of social revolution, promoted by American tax dollars, was meant to counter Soviet-sponsored revolutionary messaging. Public funds were intended to slow the Soviet scourge while showing America’s alternative democratic face.

monero isn't immune from being bought up, pumped, and taken for a wild ride by financial speculators either. functionally it is a great technology, but the financial system can devour it, chew it up and spit it out just the same as it did the rest of crypto. if it ever gets big and relevant enough, that's what i expect to happen.

This is a trick to slowly squeeze the crypto market out of existence, probably to make it wholly manipulated by the government. Right now the government is only one of many actors manipulating the market, and they fucking hate that. Crypto must be 100% manipulated by the elites like the stock market is, or it must die. If you want to see a similar example, look at the financial pressure they've been doing to the firearms industry to do an endrun around 2A.

It's also related to the push for CBDC. Gotta kneecap the competition so everyone uses the government shitcoin. Yes, this bank is going to get bailed out, but it's all on the government's terms.

Ironically, Crypto will be fine. The Government has made it damnably hard to panic sell Crypto right now, which means its not going to panic sell. Unlike the accounts in FDIC backed banks. Hilarious. You can cut the irony with a knife.

On January 11, 2021, the bank closed two of Trump's personal accounts containing $5.3 million and called for Trump to resign from office in the aftermath of the 2021 storming of the United States Capitol, citing "the best interests of our nation and the American people."

Crypto needs to go before CBDC rolls in. If these bank closures squeeze and kill crypto, it's worth the price in the eyes of whomever maybe pulling the strings.

Self-fulfilling prophecies are not new and have a been at least a literary device since the days of the Ancient Greeks. Hell, remember the 2003 film Paycheck? The whole idea was that he left clues for himself to stop a self-fulfilling prophecy, more below with video link.

Ben Affleck's character is trying to destroy a machine that sees the future, basically the future machine predicted stock market failures, plague and war, and in trying to prevent it, the nations of the world cause it themselves, fulfilling the prophecy.

this is impossible.
if the bank is in danger, that means it does not have the liquidity needed to make whole all depositors.
so if the bank can't pay them, and the taxpayer won't pay them either, then who will? makes no sense. either the taxpayer pays, or some depositors will be left empty handed.

Svb supposedly had enough assets to cover all debts. They have a lot of bonds that have tanked due to interest rates, but still have value, especially to a big bank that has money to survive through the current economy.

So likely the liquidity comes from jpmc

Seeing the state of the US now, I find it more likely the US will lose WWIII and get bailed out by China afterwards. People saying the US will win against a peer power is pure Burger Cope. We no longer have the ability or the spirit to nationalize our industries like in WWII. We see it with our difficultly to supply Ukraine. At $100 billion, Ukraine should be able to out-logistic the Russian army, regardless of corruption and the Military Industrial Complex should be able to meet this need. That they aren't says quite a bit about the efficacy of the MIC.
As most people do with get rich quick type stuff. The only people who benefit from Crypto are those who have actual dollars backed by an established national government to back the crypto. Otherwise any asshole with a laptop could theoretically start his own shit-coin spinoff.

Because they dismantled Occupy Wall Street and put on a faux social justice face to deflect criticism? The same people who were about "eating the rich" are now loyal consoomers, I hate to say it but it really was a stroke of genius.
It also says something about the soul of the Center Leftist, who was defeated by identity politics completely and utterly. They have absolutely no immunity to it because they, in their heart of hearts, do value that kind of diversity over actual results. Combined with their pro-social, Beta temperament and they just get consumed by weirdos.
