This person was using "actually thin" to be similar to a measurement of size 38-40 in European shops, not just "thin" in relative terms, like how fat acceptance people use "thin" to be anyone under size 20 in US sizes.

But a European size 40 is "normal" size in US sizing, as someone else described. It's like.a US size 10. This is not thin, except in relative terms. It's a normal size, and that's a good thing!

The person who initially brought up sizes wanted to state that size 40 is a size for a thin person, and it's probable that this person who brought this up is either an ana-chan or a wannabe ana-chan. You can infer this by their saying that size 40 is the size where a woman will have a "thigh gap." I don't know anyone who is a US size 10 who has a thigh gap -- and that's good! A US size 10 is a normal, healthy size to be.

Ana-chans don't like being told their sizes are normal and healthy, because they want to be US size 0 waifs. They have to tell themselves that their UK or European scales are sooooo radically different from US scales because we are sooooo fat in the US, so a size 40 must be a size 0 or 2 in US sizing. The point others are trying to make here is that that's incorrect. People who have actually bought clothing regularly from European and/or UK manufacturers know that's incorrect. People wearing a size 0 or 2 in US clothing are buying smaller sizes than size 40, believe me.

Anna is at the point now where it’s all precarious. Example: At 5'9.5"/5'10", I absolutely cannot order clothes online in a US regular-size 8-10 (although they'd best fit the torso) unless I want all the "long" blouse sleeves to fit like a 3/4-length sleeve, and mai pants to be high-waders.

It's hella easier for a tall woman to size-up and wear a slightly baggier blouse, or tailor* the pant/skirt/dress waist smaller to fit, than to add length to sleeves or pant legs.
