Unpopular Opinions about TV

Retards are a growing market.
Yeah, and speaking of which, Julia, the newer Muppet whose main purpose is to “destigmatize” autism, seems barely autistic at all. And Abby Cadabby was made for “good female representation” (but ended up being an extreme stereotype of stupid preschool-aged girls).

Midnight Mass is one of the shittiest fucking things I've ever watched and I don't mean "it's overrated" or "it wasn't as good as it was hyped up to be". I mean it is terrible on its own merits and it's shocking how much praise it got from many people whose opinions I respect.

I must've somehow watched a different show than everybody else. The one I watched was filled with vapid, navel-gazing, terminally stupid characters with confused or no motivations, a plot that only happens because of an endless series of nonsensical contrivances, and it's all wrapped in faux-religious philosophizing that would make a high school sophomore cringe.

A thinking-man's horror series should not leave me with this impression "you're all retarded and uninteresting and unlikable and I only wish the altar boy and the crippled mulatto had died too" about all of its characters. If you want a horror mini-series about a monster in an insular island community, watch Storm of the Century instead - it may be low budget Stephen King cheese, but it's still more compelling and cerebral than this trash.

Or just watch the movie 30 Days of Night, which is exactly the same story but without all the lapsed-Catholic bullshit slathered on top.

To me, I genuinely believe that Saturday Night Live is still on the air because the automated laugh track machine is still useable for some reason. I can’t prove it, but there could be a strong chance that this true.

The Night Court sequel isn't outright terrible. The show is just bland and inoffensive. It's only bad when compared to the original Night Court. This show is more like Day Court where the weirdos aren't as prominent and the jokes aren't as good. What it does make me think is that people in the past were just much funnier people. It's not like these new writers aren't trying their best, but I'm not sure they're talented enough to pull off the kind of jokes the original Night Court had.

John Larroquette has a Sigmund Freud kind of beard. It looks terrible and I'm sure it's being used to cover up herpes.

America’s Funniest Home Videos was mostly dumbasses getting hurt doing stupid things. And the winning videos were mostly videos of children doing things that weren’t funny but they still won because “kids are cute”.

Sesame Street should have ended before 2000, because afterwards it introduced characters that became overhyped (usually for a politically correct reason) and had too many celebrity guests.

The older skits were fun even for adults. But when it became The Elmo Show it really went downhill. I watched in the 80s and I still like watching those clips today. I think because it was more like an edutainment version of The Muppet Show. When I started watching Elmo was pretty new and not as prominent. But as time wore on he became the center and even Big Bird got pushed into the background. Tickle Me Elmo wasn't a cause. It was a symptom. Things were heavily Elmofied by then and it just got worse. I tried to watch about a decade ago because I love Muppets. But it was so dumbed down and annoying. You don't get those weird, creative skits anymore.

Why didn't they just use Prairie? They already had an ordinary girl muppet.

"Elmo. God save us.. the Elmo era. Sesame Street was created to reflect the environment of the children watching it. The complete self-absorption of Elmo is brilliantly reflective of our time. Our's is a cultural ghetto. Wouldn't you agree?"

She has short, straight, blonde hair, which means only little white girls could identify with her. Plus, she wore a modest blue dress and not some pink and purple sparkle hellstravaganza that Party City can sell for 29.99 USD (35.99 for Deluxe version, accessories sold separately).

I'm there with you, especially since I know that even if he gets un-cancelled, Whedon will never be able to create anything that good unless [the current year] finally ends.
Firefly getting canned after one season was the best thing that could have ever happened to it.

Six seasons of "Who are the Blue Glove men" and "What is wrong with River" would have made the "Oh she is psychic and saw something horrible in the minds of Glow Niggers so it made her insane" would have been an absolute god awful ending for any mystery arc that lasts more than 10 episodes.

A lot of people really don’t like Elmo. (Archive)

Abby Cadabby was also created to represent a third world immigrant. From Wikipedia:
Tony Geiss conceptualized Abby as a way to simultaneously introduce a major female character to the show and add someone from a different culture, without "having consciously to introduce somebody from Indonesia or India".

People keep saying this, and yet canned laughter is used in such legendary and objectively great shows as

All in the Family
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
The Young Ones
Seinfeld
The IT Crowd

Explain yourself.
I grew up in the '80s and laugh tracks were a part of every sitcom, so I never really noticed. Whenever the single camera format like "the office" showed up and didn't have a laugh track is what ruined most accounts for me. I was a die hard Seinfeld fan during its original run and was excited when Netflix added the entire series. Soon as I started watching it, the laugh track I had never noticed before was painfully obvious and annoyed the crap out of me. I watched a YouTube videos of sitcoms being filmed with the awkward pauses between punchlines sans laugh track. It finally occurred to me that most of the writing in sitcoms is terrible and unfunny.

Laugh tracks are a relic of a bygone era, when comedy was supposed to be entertaining as opposed to Two Minutes' Hate with snarky delivery. Lucy and Ethel getting up to some retarded shit has a laugh cue because, well, it's funny. "White people are just the worst, amirite?" [Canned laughter and applause] doesn't entertain, it just makes you think of the John Oliver copypasta.
