PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Hood River police say they are responding to an active shooter situation near a local Dairy Queen.

At 12.41 p.m. on Thursday, the Hood River Police Department announced they are evacuating residents from the area of Clearwater Lane and advising people to stay away from the vicinity due to an active shooter situation.

The Hood River County School District said that they placed local schools in “secure status” while law enforcement handles the situation — secure status means students and staff are safe inside the buildings, but no one may enter or exit the schools.

Few other details are available at this time

Is that some kinda convenience store? Sounds like someone got... inconvenienced then.
It is a large grocery store chain. Though I see the confusion. The only Safeways on the West Coast are supermarkets while on the East Coast, they are gas stations.

I've never been west of Nebraska so I wouldn't know. Also I wouldn't recommend Nebraska unless you really fucking love corn.

In the 2 p.m. update, the district said secure status had been lifted for lower valley schools and that students would be released at the regular dismissal time.

Eyewitnesses report spotting local homeless man Samuel Hyden running away while duel wielding uzis and babbling incoherently about being the Candyman.

Update: suspect is cornered in a house. Cops responded to a "dangerous situation" at the home, and suspect started firing when they showed up.

Sounds like a domestic scuffle. They're probably just trying to keep people out of the way.
