Am I the only one who doesn't really see this as that big of a deal? Because based on the news articles and reading Microsoft's explanation, my understanding of what this update does is change the default standby/sleep mode's behavior so that it uses less power, but at the expense of adding 5-10 seconds to wake the system. Yes, the update defaults it to on, but you can still just as easily go toggle the old standby behavior in the system settings.
The new behavior sounds similar to how the PS3 would handle large downloads. The PS3 was literally incapable of downloading/installing anything in the background, so you could enable an optional feature where the system would turn itself on at like 4 am, download/install any updates and pending downloads, then turn itself off when finished.
Also, I'm pretty sure the "remote shutdown" feature they're talking about is the currently existing one where if your Xbox sits idle for 2-ish hours, it turns off automatically. Never mind the fact that the feature has existed since the days of the 360, and you can still outright disable that feature anyways.
