Half Moon Bay shooting: 7 dead in mass killing incident - #stopAAPIhate

A man opened fire on people at two separate locations in Half Moon Bay on Monday afternoon, killing seven and injuring one, according to law enforcement.

When San Mateo County Sheriff deputies arrived to the scene on the 12700 block of Cabrillo Highway shortly before 2:30 p.m., they found four people shot dead. They transported a fifth victim to Stanford Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, then found three more people dead from gunshot wounds at a nearby location, according to a statement from Sheriff’s Captain Eamonn Allen.

Investigators identified the suspect as 67-year-old Zhao Chunli. Two hours after the incident, a deputy glimpsed Chunli’s car in the parking lot of the Half Moon Bay Sheriff’s substation, where he was peacefully taken into custody. Deputies said they found the weapon used in the incident inside his car.

“There is no current outstanding threat to the community,” Allen said in the statement. The sheriff opened a family reunification center at IDES Hall on 735 Main Street.

Councilwoman Debbie Ruddock told NBC Bay Area that the victims were Chinese farmworkers.

One of the locations was a local mushroom farm, according to Half Moon Bay City Councilmember Joaquin Jimenez, is also the program director of ALAS, a nonprofit that serves farmworkers.

“It’s very upsetting,” Jimenez said.

Crime scene technicians were processing a location around the Spanish Town Shops Center just off Highway 92.

The burst of violence occurred one day after a separate mass shooting in Monterey Park, California. Public officials and advocates against gun violence still reeling from the deaths of 10 at Monterey Park during the Lunar New Year were quick to condemn the bloodshed in Half Moon Bay Monday.

“First Monterey Park and now Half Moon Bay,” San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa said in a statement. “Enough is enough. How many more must die?”

Congresswoman Anna Eshoo commended the sheriff for quickly arresting a suspect as developments quickly unfolded at the two crimes scenes.

“Half Moon Bay is a beloved and tight-knit community, and we all stand with them and the families of the victims during this dark hour,” she said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

That, after THIS happened in my hometown. Not the first time something like that has happened there, either.

However, this school shooting was at the kind of place that my old town had, for kids who had been kicked out of every other school. I knew a few people who for whatever reason chose to work at that school, and the one thing they all agreed with was that if it was up to them, all of the students would be sterilized on admission, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

I'm familiar with such schools. The one in the district where they give the druggies and wiggers a participation diploma?

The latest I heard was 7 fatalities in 2 locations, and a 67-year-old Chinese man appears to be in custody. So far, the victims all appear to be farm workers, which suggests to me that he knew them, or was at least familiar with the facilities.

These circumstances are highly intriguing.

Maybe the first guy is inspiring a movement. Old AAPI men aren't going to take it anymore. Also, these old folx are less likely to have extensive social media presences.

Another shooting by an Oriental American? Chang and Zhang must be too hard on their #modelminority children.

Among all the subgroups considered Azn American, it surprises me that Pajeets (South Asians) seem to be the less mass shooty of the bunch. At least from the stories I see. You'd honestly expect them to be the most violent given the caste shithole that they come from.

Until told otherwise, my headcanon is that MSG (Mass Shooter Grandpa) was their boss at a greasy Chinese restaurant and they quit to work on a pot farm because the job paid better.

This is the worst thing to happen in Half Moon Bay since Birdemic. /sneed

Hmmm.... Something glowes here. Suddenly a number of Asian people started to kill each other in California a few days in a row with guns. How very strange.
Very strange. Something in the water down in California.

he was literally sitting in their parking lot after the shootings. but, yeah ... way to go there, officers!

Put your foil hats on, kids!

Very old Chinese man goes on a seemingly random killing spree.

Both of them killed people at one location and then went to another location.

Apparently the Ballroom shooter had been experiencing paranoia, and now Rachel Maddow is saying that this guy had gone to the cops twice in the last few weeks saying that he was persecuted.
