Unfortunately I missed it, and only learned about it second-hand.

Popehat's account is currently set to protected and labeled "DoneHat" (link, archive).

That’s your opinion, I guess time will tell. He did spend about a week begging Trump to come back to Twitter, and is always posting stale chan memes so I don’t think it’s that far fetched a connection. I’m sure it would just be for the lolz of course.

This is not why Twitter is important.

Here’s the main reason why. Remarkably, Reddit of all places figured it out. It’s because Twitter’s algorithm allows the Deep State goons to control the entire conversation through a vanishingly small number of paid shills who are then amplified by the journalists and activists on Twitter.

It's a public forum with a billion people so what would have been some idiot shouting into the void is now some idiot backed up by millions of others. On top of that, there's no way to downvote outside of "ratioing" someone.

Secondly, it's perfect for an age where people don't read headlines any more. Many times I've seen people leaving comments which theorise about something related to the article, that's in the article itself. Now millions of people can get the current leftie talking points and "facts" in 140 characters.
