My first thought was the plan was to draft young black men with a father present in their lives first, especially if they are an only son. Sounds about right given the way the government treats them.

To my knowledge you only need the card for some things like student financial aid. I do think you need to keep your address in the system current until you age out at 26. After that it doesn't matter.

Let's suppose, in some hypothetical future resource war versus China, a few USN carrier groups get close enough to the Chinese mainland to launch an amphibious landing at the beaches east of Fuzhou against the 3.5 million strong PLA. For lulz, let's imagine a beach head is established. The Chinese lose a few square miles of sovereign territory. US marines are pouring ashore. Lav-25s are fanning out into the surrounding countryside to probe the enemy defenses. For more hypothetical fun, let's pretend that a good chunk of the People's Liberation Army are on a 'training exercise' on the Outer Mongolian border and can't offer up much resistance. The natural option for China is to break out the nukes. This will always become the 'natural option' when any nuclear power starts losing any conventional war.

Fighting a war with old fucks has never been a viable option. If the 45-50 range gets drafted, you once again have bigger things to worry about, because it means this country will lose militarily in extremely short order and a general collapse scenario from an inability to maintain order is imminent. A country that needs to dip into not just the above age draft population, but into the 45-50 range is doomed. Not at some vague point in the future, it is doomed right away, immediately, do not pass go. I presume you have your shelter already fully stocked and prepared if you are anticipating this, and you would agree with me that the reckoning is just around the corner.

I have to admit I'm a little disappointed that someone old enough to remember the looming specter of nuclear war has seemingly forgotten about it so readily. That specter has never really gone away; the systems in place to facilitate mutually assured destruction have never been disarmed or dismantled. I would not bet on them having fallen into disrepair either, and even if they are under-maintained; the 60s (where most of this hardware originates from) are a bygone age where they actually built shit to last. Even so it would only take a fraction of Cold War stockpiles atomic weapons to totally destroy both sides in a major exchange.

I've also seen the argument that such a conflict won't escalate to nuclear because our leaders would be too afraid to push the button. The opposite is true. Our leaders have only become more sociopathic and dismissive of human life since the days of "There are no innocent civilians" take-no-prisoners war leaders like Curtis LeMay. In addition to being less than a fifth the men those leaders were, they are also far more narcissistic and deluded. If you believe they are dumb enough to try and draft as old as 45-50, you can bet for certain that they would be dumb enough to believe they can handily win a nuclear war.

Hate to bump this dumb thread, but I'll just throw in my two cents here while I'm here: I'm not really worried about being conscripted; I've mentioned in other threads where people are dooming about the draft coming back that while I'm turning 23 pretty soon (and am thus pushed farther back in being called if there's a draft), I've got a health issue that bars me from enlistment that isn't waivable plus unjabbed (US military is firing unjabbed people; wouldn't make sense to draft from a demographic that is unjabbed), so unless there IS going to be conscription over the Slavic slap fight because my country loves to play World Police and the standards go in the toilet as a result of that, I won't start to worry much.
