I have had dealings with the charity sector in the UK, which is is desperate need of a rethink, though politically you would be mad to kick that hornets nest.

These are my observations:

1. There is a high rate of observable narcissism and sociopathy among charity CEOs. It makes sense when you consider that rank and file charity workers are generally caring and somewhat selfless individuals, and are therefore easily exploited. Oversight in small/medium-sized charities is minimal and advisory boards, that have no direct insight into the running of an organisation, can be misled, manipulated, or may even be complicit in wrongdoing.

2. A common trap that charities fall into is losing sight of their cause and focusing more on their own survival. I once saw a charity break a law that they had vociferously campaigned for, weeks after it came into effect, in order to gain an advantage over a rival charity that was operating in the same sector.

The charity/NGO sector is in serious need of an overhaul worldwide.

Often they are parasitic associations who gravitate towards any sort of "humanitarian aid" cashflow and suck it dry to the benefit of nobody but their trustees.

There are organisations that follow in the wake of war like vultures, and are as invested in the perpetuation of conflict as arms dealers.

Just after the war in (then) Yugoslavia back in 1992 a former lecturer at the university of Belgrade saw this travesty in action and wrote two very incisive essays which he published on his website.

One was called "The Expat Experts", the second "War in the Service of Humanitarianism". I can't remember his name and cannot find them anywhere online any more, which is a pity. I've read a lot on the subject since then, but nothing as clear.

Breslow quit his role this week after it emerged that he had given a presentation at an event for B4U-ACT, an American group that promotes services “for self-identified individuals . . . who are sexually attracted to children”.

Is this a new(ish) organisation? This is the first time I've heard of them. I wonder what they do besides give "TED talks".

The only paedophile club I really know anything about is NAMBLA. There was an attempt at creating a "companion site" for female paedos in about 2002 which got busted, I think for distributing CP. IIRC that lot were called "Butterfly Girls" and their website was even more revolting than NAMBLA's (for the few weeks it existed).

"Mermaid" seems to carry some particular meaning within the whole trans movement. I think it's meant to be something about your "inner child" or inner true spirit, or something like that, but all I ever picture from it is all the kids that started their troon journey by dressing up as Ariel.

I found an essay titled The Expat Experts by someone called Shmuel Vaknin. He doesn't list Belgrade university in his cv, but he seems to have extensive links to the balkans and seems to be married to someone from in or near Serbia. I haven’t looked into that particular one much but there are definitely a number of proPaedo orgs around now.
They aren’t quite as blatant as NAMBLA (or the UK equivalent PIE - Paedophile Information Exchange) and they tend to masquerade as being support services to prevent paedos offending/reoffending.

Some orgs do exist with that aim (although research shows that they aren’t very effective and sex offender recidivism is a massive societal issue that we don’t have any kind of control over at all).

One genuine (although perhaps useless) org is StopSo

One org that camouflages itself as being like StopSo but is really just a sex offender social club is Protasia.

Any org that offers group therapy for paedos/rapists doesn’t actually give a shit about victims or prevention of reoffending because it’s well known that facilitating ways for perverts to meet each other results in them egging each other on to offend again (and allows them to swap sneaky tips on evading detection).

The other obvious red flag is any org using the term ‘Minor Attracted Person’ rather than paedophile or sex offender (paedophile can refer to someone who hasn’t actually committed a crime yet*, sex offender can mean both criminally active paedos and opportunistic sex criminals who will happily diddle/rape almost anyone, woman, man, child, farm animal whatever and don’t have a particular fixation on or preference for kiddies).

*I’m not convinced there is such a thing as a non offending paedo - the number of paedos trading images online is off the scale, according to UK police, and paedos lie, so the likelihood of a Paedo existing in the internet era who hasn’t committed at least a child sex abuse image related crime seems very unlikely. Plus, paraphilias develop and escalate, they don’t spring, fully formed, out of nowhere.

B4U-ACT was founded in 2003. It's some little organization that attempts to hook up pedos with shrinks. They also try to train shrinks and things like that. No clue how effective they are.

They've got a somewhat mysterious leadership. They were founded by Russell Dick (a shrink) and Mike Melsheimer (a pedo).

In 2002, Mike launched a one-man campaign which incessantly challenged the Maryland Mental Hygiene Administration (as it was called at that time) to identify a single mental health practitioner or agency in the state that publicly advertised services for “persons like myself” before they broke the law. His dogged persistence resulted in a small annual grant from the state to establish and maintain B4U-ACT, develop a hotline to connect MAPs with therapists in Maryland, and sponsor workshops for practitioners. Mike also successfully procured from the IRS the 501(c)3 status for the organization.

Now compare it to this puff piece in the Baltimore Sun around when B4U-ACT was founded. Turns out he has broken the law before.

Their education director, Dr Richard Kramer, is a pedophile. and works under a pseudonym (for archive, see attached pdf).

Paul Christiano was an administrative assistant and a board member for B4U-ACT. He was a pedo with a charge for purchasing child pornography. He ended up doing a flip (well, poisoning) in 2015 (a). The author of that obituary wrote "[Christiano] spoke openly about pedophilia ... giving interviews about his lifelong attraction to young girls, always insisting that the criminality lay not in attraction but in action, and claiming that he had never hurt a child nor acted on his attraction".

Which is stupid considering his crime of purchasing CP. Money changed hands. He monetarily contributed to harming children.

Like I think the real damage is done by mishandling the group and letting the pedos encourage each other, as they are wont to do. In the grand scheme of things, changing a little terminology is fairly harmless, I think.

Though I kinda wonder if any shrinks who get into this shit can ever be competent at this? Like shrinks seem the very definition of "oversocialized", to use Uncle Ted's terminology. I misread the first organisation as "Prostasia" and thought it was a piss take until I went back.

The original concept of 'group therapy' was to use a very small group of patients with varying severity of a disorder (new ones along with those nearly recovered) in the hope that the group members would learn from each other. The entire session was to be supervised by the patients' psychiatrist to keep it on topic and prevent a mutual back-slapping session from developing.

By "small group" I mean 5-10 people.

Unfortunately the concept quickly deteriorated into cramming as many sufferers from the same condition into the largest space available, letting them do what they wanted while the psychiatrist sat upstairs ensuring that every attendee's medical aid scheme(US: health insurance) got billed.

What research has been done on the latter form of "group therapy" generally shows it to be almost completely ineffective. In the case of intractable or relapsing disorders (paedophilia, drug/alcohol dependence) there have even been shown to be harmful consequences.

The whole clusterfuck isn't helped by the fact that, in a lot of places, therapists are mandatory reporters, required to call in the police for any admission of paedophilic thoughts, regardless of whether they've acted on them. A person can't go to a therapist and say "I'm attracted to children and I want help" because they'll be shipped off to the nearest cop shop before the first session is over.

The group therapy stuff is an attempt to get around that, but it clearly isn't up to the task, not least because idpol is starting to enter the system; instead of being helped to co trol and redirect their desires, paedos are being told that they should be proud of their "identity".
