John, how will an one-time payment to people who did not suffer the harm from people who did not commit the harm lead to a "fresh page" rather than further demands of more reparations by other groups (and probably the same groups)? Why would a Black person who feels they continue to suffer from racism feel "whole" from a single payment of money? You want the government to investigate everyone to see if they have lineage in slavery or should Obama get money too? What should be done to make Native Americans "whole"? You're a big feminist, shouldn't all women get reparations from men too? Should trans women pay cis women?
Germany paid people who had actually suffered the harms they had committed, the people who the U.S. paid for internment were still alive people who had suffered the harms, etc. And it's not like everyone just got over and stopped talking about these crimes because of it, they were really bad, a payment didn't just make them okay!
