A lot of people forget that Appalachia is a whole beast of its own in terms of culture, and that the core of Appalachia covers parts of the Upper South and the Mid-Atlantic.

West Virginia is sometimes considered a northern state* since it staunchly was on the side of the Union during the Civil War (to the point West Virginia seceded from Virginia when the latter state joined the Confederacy) and it's also the only state entirely within Appalachia.

*- Depending on who you ask, WV is either the northernmost of the southern states or the southernmost of the northern states.

it's interesting because people seem to use Appalachia to mean WV/eastern KY/TN, as someone who lives near Pittsburgh, going to those places is quite a culture shock.

Don't blame my state for Sleepy Joe, he only flipped two districts and Trump flipped four. Not to mention most of the state stayed red throughout. We have our blue strongholds but we are trying our best down here. Also you are probably right and I just don't want to admit it.

Or move to Canada, nowhere will ever feel like hot ass and, as a bonus, you'll rarely encounter sunlight.

If I can ever afford to move I'll probably take the latter option (or at least the PNW) for the reasons mentioned.

Especially with the rate developers are chopping down all the trees making the heat even worse down here :(

But yeah, I was hatched around the Puget Sound and have never gotten used to the shithole climate of the south. Too sun, too heat, etc etc.

So how do y'all feel about hypo cooking? I understand that iodine can be a right ornery bottleneck in this day an age but I can't rightly stand by cooking with hypo instead of good old fashioned hydriodic acid an red phosphorous. Y'all.

It's why I use the term Greater Appalachia sometimes, the cultural region is bigger than people realize. And fun fact, Northern Georgians were Union supporters in the Civil War. Sherman didn't actually burn that much down, his main goal was punishing the Plantation class that were avoiding most of the pain from the war.

And this one is for @Syaoran Li, even if it's a nice trailer park it's got that important element of regional relationships, the female of the species is the more dangerous of the pair. The Crazy/Hot matrix is a fucking thing out there.

my hometown is technically part of Appalachia, or at least was. the oldest church in my town is a Presbyterian Church, and although it's mostly paddy, kraut, and wop now, you still find some old placenames of Scots Irish origin.

That said, anyone who idolizes Appalachia rather than rightfully viewing it as being the developmental equivalent of the hood is a retard.
