Hypothetical scenario: you're given two choices,

-Be able to go back and relive your entire life, with all the knowledge you have now. Every mistake you've ever made could be prevented, you could do things you wish you hadn't done but didn't do. You could spend more time with loved ones or pets vefore they passed on. You would know what companies to invest in, which ones would go on to become multi-million dollar enterprises. You would be aware of major world events before they happened. You get get in the ground floor on Bitcoin (if you wanted to).

-Be given 2 million dollars now.

Which one would you choose.

I'd take the 2 mill. As alluring as the prospect of preventing my past mistakes is, I'm the man I am today in part because of those mistakes.

Also I really fucking don't want to relive my school years all over again.

id hate to relive through k-12 being the adult that i am, but man there is so much stuff from 18 on which i wish i could change, plus as @Retink pointed out, i'd love to be able to live even longer as the person i am now since i am very unhappy with who i was. i look back at my life form 19-27 and feel it was so wasted and i regret every second of it.

and the 2 mil is chump change, one of the biggest mistakes i made was i was aware of bitcoin when it was around a few dollars and had an opportunity to buy a bunch of it but decided that nah, it probably wont go anywhere.

Relive, 2 mil is nothing, to redo what my life could be. I don't say that to brag but a career of joy and family etc or coming up with a 100 million dollar idea or even stealing one super bowl memory to win riches? Yeah skip the shit for good stuff and make more than cash.

Time is literally unable to be valued

Relive my life. Here's why:
  1. Be Born.
  2. Wait a couple of years.
  3. Spend every dime I have on Bitcoin.
  4. Wait for a few decades. Work at a mundane job so I'm not suspect.
  5. CHA-CHING ! Suddenly, a single piece of Bitcoin went from threefiddy to an average vacation price tag to the Bahamas.
  6. Go into hiding in Switzerland with my family.
2 Million Dollarydoos is gas station change compared to this.

I like how some responses choose no because of school, but if you have the intellect of an average 6th grader in kindergarten, you could just skip all the babysteps -> go to highschool -> drop out and get billions off of bitcoin.

relive, plenty of dead loves ones i'd like to spend time with. fuck the money. we'll be using franklins like dollar bills by the end of the decade.

not true, skipping grades hasn't been allowed since NCLB for the most part. you just get thrown into some GATE course, beyond that since no one hires the under 18 anymore outside of cashier jobs at grocery stores its not worth it to finish school before then. beyond that a lot of places won't even let you graduate/dropout of high school before age 16 for various reasons. so best case scenario you graduate super early start college and still end up fucked somehow.

even the kids that do finish college before 18 basically end up having to go to graduate school because literally no one will hire them under 18, labor laws make it way too much of a hassle.

Sure getting a second chance to relive your life and to avoid the past pitfalls and make better choices seems like the way to go. However, correcting past mistakes might just lead to other more costly mistakes especially if your reason is to make boat loads of money. Most billionaires live their lives surrounded by security. No way, you can live a normal life living with cameras in every room of your house. The friends you have today wouldn't be the friends you have in your second go around. Plus life would be so fucking boring, knowing everything that's gonna happen.

Now if you wanted to go back and stop every school shooting, terrorist attacks, stopping innocent people from getting killed, sure, count me in. That seems like fun, plus you might just get to smoke some scumbags.

2 million dollars is a fuck ton of money, you could right some past wrongs with the cash, and still have enough to live pretty good.

I'm actually torn. I can go back and become Jack Reacher that crushes criminals and Vegas on the regular or just be another rich dude. I dunno..

>You could spend more time with loved ones or pets vefore they passed on.

I'm sure my new actions on this new timeline would somehow alter a lot of the events of our colective past, starting from the life and death of my loved ones to huge things that may or may not happen because I or my altered loved ones decided not to do something we did in this timeline, you know, butterflies n' shit. So all that would just result in a new timeline in which I don't know much about the distant future, again. Not worth it very much imo.
Anyhow, I'll take my 2 millions and get me some hookers and cocaine (and maybe a car for my mom since she always wanted one) thank you very much.

just thought of something else, childhood would suck as an adult. stuff like not being able to walk or talk or run or poop. i'm sure that would make people go insane. also considering we all have adult tastes, it would be legit a problem having our tastes and being a kid. i doubt many parents want their 5 year old listening to the misfits or worse. plus the constant stimulation we all have means all of us would be bored if we went back to the days of dial-up. i highly doubt being over medicated and forced to be around other kids will help our sanity. beyond that, you'll still be looked at weird because you would be a child in college or whatever. from what i'm reading of the kids that went to college under 16, their parents basically were chained to them, so they only got the lecture part of the "college experience" which; while good certainly isn't what people want from it.

also considering how much of live revolved around phones up until the late 2000s, i highly doubt someone with the voice of a 6 year old asking about college will be taken seriously. between that and the lines picking courses was dogshit until pretty recently in the US.

in general regardless of your smarts, your life is practically locked in, "school until 18" "reliant on others to drive until 16" so unless you're living in a major city you're fucked and have to do what your parents and teachers say until 16. it doesn't matter how smart or amazing you are at some sports. best shot you have a custodian account on your investment portfolio.

i mean what world events could you have prevented? unless someone on the farms has a clearance i doubt we could have prevented most major tragedies. beyond that as we saw from Julius Ceasar, some rando going "don't do that!" is going to be just seen as a weird interaction and won't really do anything to prevent most people's deaths. you really think any drug overdose would have been prevented if another asshole told a junkie to stop shooting H?

also sports gambling was only legal in vegas until literally 2020, so betting is out of the question leaving only stocks to invest in and even then, most of them were either known to be the way of the future or only grew a small amount over a long period of time. like microsoft, facebook. even google only averaged 26% ROI*, which is huge but not enough to matter in a year, more like after 30 years. outside of apple/amazon/tesla almost no one was making 1000% ROI, and tesla's IPO was in 2010 so you'd be better off going long on bitcoin by then.

just in general the 2000s was sort of fucked stocks wise. unless you sold everything in 2000 you were fucked and same with 2008, just selling at the right time roughly would net you more money than almost any stock pick besides the 2 i mentioned.

so in general the "get rich quick" thing wouldn't be possible and you'd be left in a holding pattern until 2010.

honestly i highly doubt anyone would refuse to go back 12 years ago, no matter how old you are, thats right in the nostalgia when you were healthier and fitter and things mattered less.

*a 26% ROI sounds great but just betting on the patriots to win outright would net you this much back during the brady days, and mind you thats just one of 16 weeks in a season.

Who the fuck cares about money and preventing mistakes when more life is one the table. Unless you hate the very concept of living, your immediate childhood you can't change was hell or you belive its a moral trap from God I don't see how you don't pick the one-up. Just ride though you childhood waiting for your brain to develop into sentient and invest into anything you can into the apple or Google.
Honestly the only downside is having advanced memories while having an undeveloped mind at which point just enjoy cartoons until your mind can comprehend compound interest, Wallstreet stocks and early cancer prevention. Even if reliving the day to day sound bad remember literally every action you do will drastically change your life so it'll at least be fresh. Plus just the idea of see the world I grow up in again is enough for me

you really want to live 3 years without the ability to walk, talk, or use the potty. you can just pretend to be like that right now.
