I feel this - I've always played video games (alongside my sisters and a lot of irl female friends) but I find any online video game space is full of 'females' aka troons.
I don't know if other women relate but I was never bothered defining my gender in online gaming spaces because it always garners a reaction I'd rather not deal with. That's why if I log on an MMO or whatever and I see a female character or someone with girl in the name I immediately 'press x to doubt'.

I used to play Alley Cat! Terribly, because I'm not good at those types of games, but I remember it. I love mmos, but I only solo. I won't join groups of any sort, even Facebook groups.
