The NYT marriage announcement between Fred and Sam’s mom just says that he was previously divorced, it didn’t say how many times lol! But I’m not too sure about the ages. Sam’s mother Delora Gans wasn’t too young herself when she got married. She was born around 1946 (I’m guessing this based on the fact she graduated high school in 1964) which would make her 36 at marriage. If anything, Fred is younger than her by a few months (who was 54 in 2003). Delora must have been 39 years old when she had Sam.

I wonder if Sam is Fred’s only biological child. In that 2003 article I linked it says Fred had 2 sons, one 17 (obviously Sam) and one 12. This brother could be Sam’s full-brother, which would mean his mother would have been 44 years old when she had him (unlikely). This could also be a half-brother with Guillette, but I doubt this too. In Guillette’s mother’s obituary, there is no grandson with the surname Hyde. My guess is that this mystery brother is Guillette’s son from a previous relationship, Will Moreland. Will is a Yalie just like Fred and has a law degree from Georgetown (where Fred taught for many years). Will seems to be a well-adjusted person unlike his stepbrother.
