That's definitely it. My husband is my best friend. He was before we were married. That's the best advice I can give someone: marry a person who you can be/are best friends with. Passion comes and goes, but friendship is forever. Discuss everything with them before you commit.

The better you know them the happier you'll be in the long run because you know how they think and can see how compatible they are to the way you think. You can have completely different hobbies and interests as long as you look at the world the same way overall.

My parents married at 18 and 23 (pretty wild age gap by today's standards) and haven't had any marital issues despite 3 kids which is a far cry from me, since I haven't had a boyfriend since my early secondary school days, haha.
(kind of but not really equivalent to an American high school)

IMO the red flag here isn't the age, it's how long they've been together without being married. I've seen some millenial youtubers do this, where they've been in relationships for eight, ten years, or more, and just....don't want to get married.

If someone isn't going to marry you after 3-4 years of being in a relationship with them, they aren't going to commit to you, period. This is evident in OP's story alone since as soon as they consider getting married the husband tries to sabotage the whole thing.
