WASHINGTON — The United States should consider reparations to African-American descendants of slavery, establish a national human rights commission and publicly acknowledge that the trans-Atlantic slave trade was a crime against humanity, a United Nations working group said Friday.


The U.N. Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent released its preliminary recommendations after more than a week of meetings with Black Americans and others from across the country, including Baltimore, Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C., and Jackson, Miss.

After finishing their fact-finding mission, the working group was “extremely concerned about the human rights situation of African-Americans,” chair Mireille Fanon Mendes-France of France said in the report. “The colonial history, the legacy of enslavement, racial subordination and segregation, racial terrorism and racial inequality in the U.S. remains a serious challenge as there has been no real commitment to reparations and to truth and reconciliation for people of African descent.”

For example, Mendes-France compared the recent deaths of unarmed Black men such as Michael Brown and Eric Garner at the hands of police to the lynchings of Black men in the South from the post-Civil War days through the Civil Rights era. Those deaths, and others, have inspired protests around the country under the Black Lives Matter moniker.

If from taxes of the American people that mean it would come from everyone including the people it is meant for. Also most of white America came here after the civil war and blacks at the time outnumbered whites hence the government encouraged the migration of people from Europe. What about mixed race black and white people does that mean they only get half the money as non mixed people? What about the descendants of people who owned slaves who now have no money will they take away their homes? How about Europe they introduced the slave trade to the New World or the Islamic world who had been enslaving Africans long before Europeans came on the scene. Why does the UN not care about actual slavery going in modern Africa or the sex slave trade that is happening everywhere in the developed and non developed world? I understand working on modern problems currently going on in this country but no one alive today had any thing to do with Antebellum slavery in America no matter how much the SJW's whine and prostrate themselves. The main reason America had black slavery in the first place was because Africans were willing to sell each other. The idea people have of Portuguese manhunters raiding paceful African villages only makes up for a small percent of the total enslaved Africans.

This is retarded. What about every other country involved in the slave trade? Do they have to pay reparations? If so, wouldn't literally everyone have to pay reparations to everyone else at some point? Where does it stop and when? If not, then why are they so inconsistent on their principles? What about how it's essentially treating people who had nothing to do with the crimes as if they are guilty of the offense? Is that not against the rights of the accused? Also, part of their recommendation about it is to put up statues and the like to open up a dialogue about slavery and the United States, which is retarded. People already discuss it quite a lot and it's understood to be abhorrent. Even the most racist of assholes know, unless they're completely fucktarded, that they shouldn't advocate for slavery because of the fallout of such a position.

It's offensive and actually just intended to be insulting. It doesn't have any chance of ever happening whatsoever, so putting it forward as a proposal is just a joke.

The fact is that an overall policy of ensuring every citizen was entitled to a good education and equal opportunity (not necessarily equal results) would, obviously, disproportionately benefit those who are currently disadvantaged, which would include more black Americans and other minorities than whites. However, it would also benefit whites who are disadvantaged. And it wouldn't insult anyone, so we couldn't do that.

Calling it "reparations" is essentially saying some white homeless guy owes Will Smith's millionaire children, just to pick an obviously absurd example. For what?

The "UN" is the Security Council, what it does, and what a few other entities with actual power, like WIPO and the WTO (technically not a UN body) do.
