WASHINGTON — The United States should consider reparations to African-American descendants of slavery, establish a national human rights commission and publicly acknowledge that the trans-Atlantic slave trade was a crime against humanity, a United Nations working group said Friday.

The U.N. Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent released its preliminary recommendations after more than a week of meetings with Black Americans and others from across the country, including Baltimore, Chicago, New York, Washington, D.C., and Jackson, Miss.

After finishing their fact-finding mission, the working group was “extremely concerned about the human rights situation of African-Americans,” chair Mireille Fanon Mendes-France of France said in the report. “The colonial history, the legacy of enslavement, racial subordination and segregation, racial terrorism and racial inequality in the U.S. remains a serious challenge as there has been no real commitment to reparations and to truth and reconciliation for people of African descent.”

For example, Mendes-France compared the recent deaths of unarmed Black men such as Michael Brown and Eric Garner at the hands of police to the lynchings of Black men in the South from the post-Civil War days through the Civil Rights era. Those deaths, and others, have inspired protests around the country under the Black Lives Matter moniker.

So is this council going to talk about the reparations owed to the descendants of Asians detained during WWII in internment camps? Or heck, how about to the Native Americans, who had claim to this country before the colonists arrived?

Oh wait they're not black, tough luck lol

This is logistically impossible. Unless you just plan on giving free money to anyone with dark skin.
WE ALREADY DO WE ALREADY DO WE ALREADY DO WE ALREADY DO WE ALREADY DO WE ALREADY DO WE ALREADY DO WE ALREADY DO WE ALREADY DO WE ALREADY DO WE ALREADY DO i am literally the first person to make this joke

I know a caper
We can get some government paper
You know food stamps, can we really do that?
Hell yeah, right there for the takin'
Fuck welfare, we say reparations

And, uh, you know the grind
Get up early get in the line and just wait
Everybody on break that's part of the game
And when they call your name

But I gotta eat regardless
No family to run to I'm 22
Now tell me what the fuck am I supposed to do

My sad story made her feel close to me
I made her feel like it was an emergency
When I came to the crib niggaz couldn't believe
I came back with a big bag of groceries, hell yeah

that's my point.
and as someone pointed out, other people had slaves too.

but it seems on the international stage, everyone is innocent.
everyone else is a victim and no one has done anything wrong.

Unless you're whitey. Or a Jew.

Seriously, there are entire UN bodies that, no matter what their supposed job is, all they do all day long is issue bullshit fatwas against Israel like it is literally the worst country that ever existed.

Organization that lets Saudi Arabia lead their human rights council has the gall to moralize to others about crimes against humanity.

This would've been a great idea! Had it happened immediately after the Civil War, reparations to newly-freed slaves would've basically bolstered the South's economy at the time and prevented a newly introduced population from falling into abject poverty. However instead we got a bunch of poor blacks going up against poorer whites on sharecropper farms and everyone then went broke.

Suggesting for reparations now... well its too late for reparations to have any good, lasting effects.

Only a small percentage owned slaves prior to the Civil War. This makes NO sense whatsoever.

May be apocryphal and I can't be bothered to look it up on my phone but I believe I heard somewhere the first slave in America was a white dude

Yeah, I've heard this too, I think it was back when we were still colonies one of the popular ways to get to the Americas when you had no money was to sell your liberty and serve someone in the Americas for a 7-10 year "indentured servitude" contract where you would usually be a servant, farmer, farm-hand or something and after your contract was up you were given freedom and usually the master would give you some money to start off your new life.

How far back do we get to go with this? Can I get a check from the German government for the sacking of Rome?

My ancestors were oppressed by the English multiple times, can I sue them?

Yeah, can I get reparations from England for the potato famine, UN?

Imagine if Bob were here today, to see how far the UN has fallen. It's sad, really.
I think it would warm his heart, though, seeing the heights to which we as a society have taken the simple plastic funnel:
