Just for info, Nintendo is entirely fine with doujinshi (the nippon term for fanzine or self-published comic) making use of their own IPs, and even publishing games making blatant inspirations, like
Touhou Shoujo, within their own platform.
Also the whole 'family-friendly' thing never truly rang true on the japanese soil. Even more so with the Switch, which is also the first Nintendo console that saw CERO Z-rated (18+) game releases in Japan. In fact, Nintendo is now the new "old Playstation" that regroups many different types of user audiences with its huge & diverse library of games.

I'm getting the impression there are people (especially the fanboys) who still have a flawed vision of Nintendo, perpetuated by the american/european branches in the past.
Which also explain why we get autists complaining about japanese-focused IPs like Xenoblade 3 & Kirby or the inclusion of "anime" characters in Smash.
