I didn't talk about the porn industry itself because I was referring to pornography in general. Not just videos, even though they are the most popular form these days. Through the ages most pornography out there was either written or drawn, so the point doesn't apply. To tack on more of a dreaded feminist angle; it's not an ethical industry. No other industry has as much trafficking and abuse as the porn industry. Everyone who does porn is at least somewhat fucked in the head as a result of trauma even if they don't admit it, and doing porn isn't helping them. Find me a single well adjusted pornstar who wasn't diddled as a child, coerced into making porn the moment they turned 18, and constantly gets STDs. It's impossible. Better yet, find me one person who is well off, doesn't ever need to worry about their financial situation, and has a healthy relationship with sex claim their dream career is porn star or hooker. The same way you wouldn't encourage someone to join a drug trafficking gang to make a quick buck, going into porn should be treated the same and yet much like trannies compared to other delusional mental illnesses, it's given a pass for some reason. And much like trannies, it preys on the vulnerable and desperate of society.
And this isn't to say women are the only victims of this, men absolutely are too, it's just simple reality that women get hurt more because the demand for porn is mostly from straight men. It's not a political opinion, it's fact.
We'll be here all week if we start talking about the porn industry's ethical and criminal problems.
Just like any other sensory experience, we get desensitized to porn. Hell, in some cases guys get desensitized to actual sex (you sometimes see it with casanova-wannabes getting listless). The stronger the stimulus, the easier it is for it to be lost, too. You see that a lot in serial killers: once they get started they very often increase the frequency of their crimes because the rush wears out faster and faster. And while super degenerate stuff was available before, it was visibly siloed off as its own thing. If you were a dude who visited the back room at a neighborhood video store, it was within the range of "normal" options. Sure, you'd still get the stink eye if your old teacher saw you going into that room, but your friends went there, too, so you didn't feel too bad. And the range of stuff was pretty basic, like "co-eds go to Mardi Gras." Could consuming that sort of thing lead to ill effects? Sure. Those dudes could end up judging their wife and mother of three kids versus the body of a 22 year old. Okay. Not great. But not horrific.
If you wanted to get access to the really fucked-up stuff, you had to make a specific trip to do so, and you had to go to a much shadier source. You wouldn't just get a stink eye if someone saw you going into one of those places; your boss or family would get a call. You'd have to mentally commit to becoming one of those men who need fucked-up enough porn that they go to those stores in that part of town.
Now, though? There's no silo. If you start with watching a super-normie "co-eds go to Mardi Gras" video to watch some flashed tits, the recommended videos might have a white college girl getting railed by a black dude in New Orleans. Okay, sure. Recommended on that video? College girl services a whole band after the show. Uhh, okay, getting further out there. Recommended after that? Bukkake. Gang rape. God even knows what. As a guy keeps clicking though the recommendations with his dick in hand, there's never that mental check forcing someone to stop and wonder "wait, am I the sort of guy who watches this?"
That's the big issue with porn. Some dude jacking it twice a week to some spicy pictures or a porn video will usually be fine. Assuming he doesn't have (or develop) any paraphilias, chances are he'll be perfectly content just watching the "most viewed videos" section on Pornhub his entire life. But someone who not only masturbates twice a day, but also spends the rest of his free time looking for more porn and chatting with people who are also sharing porn is going to become numb to whatever they're jacking it to very quickly. And since they can't increase the frequency of the stimuli, he's got to increase the intensity, and so the long march through the kink list begins.
And here's another thing: I talked about the coomer in question chatting to other coomers. That's a thing that didn't exist pre-internet. If you were alone at home, you'd watch TV, you'd read, you'd do something. You had time to do other things, and you did things alone. Even going to the bar or to a friend's place to hang out required both some effort and some restraint. Even the porn-addicts of the day didn't go on divulging their kinks at the bar the way they do the moment they pop up in a new Discord server. Being connected to other people, anonymously and at all times, distorts someone's mind something fierce.
