Netflix just released a content statement on provocative titles, including telling people "if ya don't agree, fuck off somewhere else"

Last year, Dave Chappelle's comedy special, The Closer, drew the ire of the transgender activist community, and Netflix became the target of protests. Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of the streaming giant, initially defended Chappelle's right to create offensive comedy but walked back his comments somewhat in an effort to appease "a group of employees who were definitely feeling pain and hurt."

This left matters somewhat unclear as to whether Netflix would still be inclined to feature artists like Chappelle, whose work involves upsetting people, or whether subjects that offend the sensibilities of progressive employees would be off-limits.

Thankfully, Netflix has just added an "Artistic Expression" policy to its well-publicized company culture memo. This policy states, in no uncertain terms, that the company will continue to platform provocative creators and ideas—and if employees have a problem with that, they should work elsewhere. Here is the policy:

Not everyone will like—or agree with—everything on our service. While every title is different, we approach them based on the same set of principles: we support the artistic expression of the creators we choose to work with; we program for a diversity of audiences and tastes; and we let viewers decide what's appropriate for them, versus having Netflix censor specific artists or voices.

As employees we support the principle that Netflix offers a diversity of stories, even if we find some titles counter to our own personal values. Depending on your role, you may need to work on titles you perceive to be harmful. If you'd find it hard to support our content breadth, Netflix may not be the best place for you.

This is a great statement and should serve as a model for other companies that produce ideological content or are involved in the marketplace of ideas. Many of these firms hire substantial numbers of progressive young people in an attempt to eventually offer content that is relevant to this key demographic. But in recent years, a problem has emerged: Some subset of these millennial and Gen Z employees have adopted an elite college-campus mindset and expect their bosses to proactively eliminate speech that is emotionally upsetting to them, just as they had expected school administrators and professors to do.

Companies thus find themselves in the untenable position of trying to meet the expectations of a small but hostile—and militantly progressive—work force, even though these expectations inevitably work against the interests of millions of customers. (Among the general public, Dave Chappelle is extremely popular.)

Making clear to employees from the get-go that the company is not going to heed unreasonable employee demands relating to speech and expression should be considered a best practice moving forward. Setting these expectations upfront will deprive hostile employees of their sense of betrayal while reassuring customers that excessive outrage will never dictate content choices. If there's a single, voluntarily-adoptable corporate policy that could de-accelerate the culture war, it's probably this one.

Clothes and makeup are only gendered if you think they are. It was working for a while too, men were able to at least wear pink and nail polish without being automatically called faggot. Women were going into "masculine" professions and short hair wasn't just for dykes.

But somehow we started going backwards. Now everything is gendered again, and gender stereotypes are enforced stronger than they have been in decades. It's, quite frankly, gross.

Those quotes are extremely relevant though, like the social climate of "sexual liberation=good and antifascist":

In 1977, the sociologist Klaus Theweleit published “Male Fantasies,” a two-volume book that drew on the diaries of German paramilitary fighters and concluded that their inhibited drives—along with a fear of anything gooey, gushing, or smelly—had been channelled into a new outlet: destruction. When Kentler read “Male Fantasies,” he could see Schreber, the child-care author whose principles his parents had followed, “at work everywhere,” he wrote. Kentler argued that ideas like Schreber’s (he had been so widely read that one book went through forty editions) had poisoned three generations of Germans, creating “authoritarian personalities who have to identify with a ‘great man’ around them to feel great themselves.” Kentler’s goal was to develop a child-rearing philosophy for a new kind of German man. Sexual liberation, he wrote, was the best way to “prevent another Auschwitz.”

The trials of twenty-two former Auschwitz officers had revealed a common personality type: ordinary, conservative, sexually inhibited, and preoccupied with bourgeois morality. “I do think that in a society that was more free about sexuality, Auschwitz could not have happened,” the German legal scholar Herbert Jäger said. Sexual emancipation was integral to student movements throughout Western Europe, but the pleas were more pitched in Germany, where the memory of genocide had become inextricably—if not entirely accurately—linked with sexual primness. In “Sex After Fascism,” the historian Dagmar Herzog describes how, in Germany, conflicts over sexual mores became “an important site for managing the memory of Nazism.” But, she adds, it was also a way “to redirect moral debate away from the problem of complicity in mass murder and toward a narrowed conception of morality as solely concerned with sex.”

Suddenly, it seemed as if all relationship structures could—and must—be reconfigured, if there was any hope of producing a generation less damaged than the previous one. In the late sixties, educators in more than thirty German cities and towns began establishing experimental day-care centers, where children were encouraged to be naked and to explore one another’s bodies. “There is no question that they were trying (in a desperate sort of neo-Rousseauian authoritarian antiauthoritarianism) to remake German/human nature,” Herzog writes. Kentler inserted himself into a movement that was urgently working to undo the sexual legacy of Fascism but struggling to differentiate among various taboos. In 1976, the magazine Das Blatt argued that forbidden sexual desire, such as that for children, was the “revolutionary event that turns our everyday life on its head, that lets feelings break out and that shatters the basis of our thinking.” A few years later, Germany’s newly established Green Party, which brought together antiwar protesters, environmental activists, and veterans of the student movement, tried to address the “oppression of children’s sexuality.” Members of the Party advocated abolishing the age of consent for sex between children and adults.

And the conclusion: A crazy academic with way too much power using his "academic expertize" to justify putting pedophiles to foster children:

It’s the overwhelming sense of entitlement troons have that irks me the most. They’re scream and shriek about “genocide” (i.e. not bowing to their every whim) by evil, privileged cis people in the same rank breath wherein they demand money, drugs, access to single sex spaces, and/or sexual interest. Frankly, the enforcement isn't the problem, in my view. It's what people do with those stereotypes. Rather than actually aspire to a better ideal of manhood and thus not wear make-up, this man circumvents that by claiming to be non-binary. It's an ultimately childish way of doing things, all so as to justify his non-conformity. When really it's best to either conform as best you're able, or not at all.

Regarding tranny sideshow Alana McLaughlin, the (most recent) male MMA fighter to beat up a woman, I’m wondering if there are any MMA fans here who would like to join me in pointing and laughing at HOW BADLY HE SUCKS AT FIGHTING.

His opponent, Celine Provost, doesn’t have a great pro record, but she’s apparently been doing MMA for like 10 years according to the announcers and she’s been a pioneer in the women’s side of the sport. She very obviously and very visibly knows what the hell she’s doing, and I don’t think you need to know MMA well to be able to see that.

McLaughlin, on the other hand, has been training for ONE YEAR, he’s ex-military, and I cannot express to those of you not in the know the extent to which Provost is an out-and-out better fighter than he is.
He looks like an uncoordinated little downy kid out there with her, and she’s knocking the shit out of him in R1 to the point that if he actually was a woman, he’d have been knocked out about two minutes into the fight, but since he’s not, he got to use his sheer male strength to submit her and win this fight he had absolutely no business winning.

Seriously, I was mad about this on principle for obvious reasons, but actually watching the fight got me straight MATIx10. I very much recommend you guys all watch this fight linked above; the extent to which he sucks at striking (stand up fighting) is almost hilarious, if he hadn’t snaked a W from the woman who actually deserved to win.
