i like that Grigori is never really antagonistic against you (expect stealing your heart part) and seems to have a bit of respect of you for having the courage to follow and fight him.

As the films get worse and worse he remains an entertaining character and conveys this feeling of knowing it was a farce the entire time and wants to let you in on the joke.

I just finished Ergo Proxy again, and I gotta say...

Proxy One is a pretty good antagonist. I really dig tragic characters. The anime could have easily pulled its punches and done something really dumb and overly optimistic that doesn't fit the the tone of the show, but it stuck to its guns and was better for it. It would have also been so easy to make the humans themselves or the Chief the bad guy, but no. Artifical God created by humanity to rebuild human civilization completes its goal but realizes in doing so that he has made himself obsolete and has activated his self-termination system. So in order to keep existing he has to destroy his creation, but he can't bare to face up to the responsibility and deletes his memories like a pussy and makes another God take his place. Only because Proxy One is a God those deleted memories manifest as an alter ego that completes the original plan of destroying creation in the original's stead.

Creamy Sheev was a hero struggling to keep a corrupt Republic from falling apart from within while a bunch of religious fanatics ran around breaking laws and threatening politicians. It not for his immense foresight the galaxy would have been unprepared when the Yuuzhan Vong invaded.

The Master from Fallout. The dude was terrifying, but also very sympathetic. He wanted nothing more than to unite humanity forever and end the hatred and bloodshed that have plagued our species since we first came out of our caves and discovered a sharpened stick could kill.

And when you reveal to him that his plan has failed and that the mutants are and always will be a dead end for humanity he's utterly horrified because he can no longer justify what he's done, committing suicide and taking everything he built with him.


Seriously good villain.

Both Caesar and Robert House from Fallout: New Vegas are my favorite villains from any game. Both have fleshed out, well-developed motivations, both have interesting backstories that give you enough information to see where they’re coming from but not too much so there’s still an element of intrigue and mystery to their characters. They also both had awesome performances by John Doman and René Auberjonois respectively.

I know technically House isn’t really a villain but he’s an obstacle you have to take care of in 3 of 4 of the quest lines so I think it still counts.
