🐱 Home Depot shaming staff for their white privilege

CatParty

Home Depot is telling staff to check their privilege at the door if they are white, male, Christian, and heterosexual.

In pictures from a Calgary Home Depot staff room circulating Twitter, the “Leading Practices: Unpacking Privilege” policy strives to shame staffers for their “white privilege” which Home Depot defines as “societal privileges that benefit white people beyond what is commonly experienced by people of colour under the same social, political, and economic circumstances.”

The Western Standard has reached out to both the Canadian and US corporate Home Depot offices to discuss the policy and its origins, but has not heard back.

The policy encourages staff members to talk with each other about their “white privilege” and explains “the word ‘white’ creates discomfort especially when individuals are not used to being defined or described by their race.”

The original tweet was retweeted by Dr. Jordan Peterson with his own commentary.

The leading practices tells staffers “if you’re confident the police exist to protect you, you have white privilege.”

“If while growing up, college was an expectation of you, not a dream, you have class privilege.”

“If you can expect time off from work to celebrate your religious holidays, you have Christian privilege.”

“If you can use public bathrooms without stares, fear or anxiety, you have cisgender privilege.”

“If you don’t have to worry about how to get into a store, you have able-bodied privilege.”

“If you don’t have to explain that your spouse is of the same gender, you have heterosexual privilege.”

The policy includes a checkmark list for checking your privilege: “white, male, class, Christian, cisgender, able-bodied, and heterosexual.”

According to the policy, racism equals racial prejudice, plus power.

“Racial prejudice is a set of discriminatory or derogatory attitudes based on assumptions coming from preconceptions about race/skin colour,” continued the policy.

“Power is the authority granted through social structures and conventions as well as the access to means of communications and resources. This can include authority, privilege, influence, popularity, aggression/threat, etc.”

The police aren't employed to protect you, they're employed to protect the state.

The prosecution crowdsources their information from the police and the police do not get paid the prosecutors salary. The police are useful idiots that don't value their own lives or time. $50,000 a year to be an adult baby sitter/ tard wrangler lol.

This is hilarious.

There's nothing like being bitched out about your privilege when you have what's likely a dead-end, minimum-wage job. That's especially true when your dead-end job can barely pay for groceries due to inflation.
have a shitty life
get a shitty job
with shitty pay
that barely let's you get shitty food, and a shitty place to live

danger hair bitch still living off mom and dad's money comes in
expensive ass """"""""coffee""""""""" in hand
eats expensive ass keto-vegan-proto-neo-vaginal-africano-processed foods
lives in expensive ass house
tells you to check your privilege

murder would not be a crime in that case

i fail to see the point of any of this. these types can define 'privilege' however they want, but i've yet to hear a compelling reason i should care or engage in the type of mental masturbation that any 'conversations' around the topic seem to boil down to. blacks have it tougher in some ways. bummer, i guess. 1) nothing i can do about it and more importantly 2) not my problem

The real divide is between class not race.
I've been preaching this shit since Occupy Wall Street when all this intersectional shit was suddenly used by corporations to divide everyone who came together against those in power.

Modern social justice is literally a corporate product.

If i don't see an old grizzled man with a beard in a HD apron I don't ask them for shit because they don't know shit unless it's "Hey go up that fucking ladder and get me that fucking part"

Beyond that Amazon will find a way to automate this place before long.

All good news for me!

Are they trying to provoke a lawsuit or something? Five of those are prohibited grounds of discrimination under canadian law. Even bringing them up at work, let alone making any accusatory statements in someones direction about them won't just get a company sued, they're grounds to involve the human rights commission

and while you're at it, throw 'workplace harassment,' 'hostile working environment,' 'manager made hostile comments about my race/gender/sexuality/disability status and threatened my job over it when I told him he was violating labor laws and anti discrimination laws,' 'made sexist and sexual comments' and watch HR and corporate shit their pants and hurry to fire the idiots who started it and pay you off to keep your mouth shut

Whoever wrote up those fliers and approved posting them is stupider than a bag of rocks and is ignorant of about a dozen or more laws

I want to know how many home improvement projects have been fucked up by people taking the advice of Home Depot employees. They're not carpenters or architects, they're kids and old people making $12 an hour.
That's the crazy thing. I can't find the article now but about a decade ago Home Depot brought on some new C levels. In the before times, the head of every department was supposed to be a skilled tradesperson, usually a journeyman but they'd take level 3s. So it ended up being a bunch of old tradies. As you can imagine, these department heads cost a bundle, comparatively.

The new management decided to put in place a demerit system that basically made sure anyone could be fired for anything. Now all you have for workers are regular sales associates.
