If Ralph's announced due date is correct (he said April 27. IIRC) she is in dreaded 8th month, 34 weeks 5 days (more less) So when she said in the hostage video she traveled in 35th week it was literally the first day of the 35th week, and it makes perfect sense for doc to want to wait it out if possible and safe for at least till she reaches 9th month. They will stitch her cervix, feed her uterine contraction inhibitors and monitor her. She probably didn't lose much of the fluid, if any.

She said they are basically trying to keep it in till Friday and then will induce on Friday. She looks really small for 35 weeks and that means the baby is too. Ralph said they expect the baby to spend time in the NICU.

She was a fucking idiot for driving alone ten hours - constant vibrations, pressure of constant upright sitting position, little walking and lack of sleep are a good way for membrane to rupture early.

One of the things they start checking women for regularly after 32 weeks if a cervix is dilating to any degree beyond 2 or 3cm. The last month they check it every week.

I wonder if Pantsu bothered to get checked before driving ten hours away at 35 weeks? They might have easily seen her cervix was starting to dilate and put her on bed rest to prevent this from happening. Seems like something any knowledgeable midwife would have insisted on checking at this stage, and esp if Pantsu was going to travel.

That was really early in the pregnancy and due dates it’s pretty typical for due dates to be adjusted later once they see more growth. For some reason I too recall the due date as April 27, it was brought up during the bowling wedding shit. I think Ralph was trying to prove she was fine to drive to Texas because she wasn’t due till the end of the month. It’s really a shame, we had a real shot at a bowling alley birth after all.

Re pain meds in labour:

I completely support people having a trial of labour, and indeed a trial of labour without any pain relief, let alone the epidural, if that’s what they want. I didn’t get any pain relief in any labour until the last one when they put the spinal in for the emergency section. It is completely doable, and I say that as a weak faggot who can’t tolerate a bikini wax. And I take the point that in the US system, the risk of intervention is higher after epidural.

What I was trying to convey is that I have no time for the people who use “I didn’t have any pain relief” as some kind of weird super mommy flex. It doesn’t make you some kind of better mother or somehow morally superior to the people who had the epi. It also makes people who bought into that feel like shit if they get tired or labour goes sideways and they get the epi anyway. It’s not a moral decision, it’s a medical practicality.

The point I am trying to make is: this isn’t a competition and there are no points for doing it “hard way”. Do what you want and need to do. Not what other people are bigging up as “correct“. if you and baby get here healthy, you did absolutely fine however you did it, and Judy McJudgerson can fuck right off.
