This. Legal gender recognition for trannies have long existed before gay marriage in the first world. While they were more gatekeeping for transition, people are still expected to treat them as true and honest opposite sex since the 70s.

It was a law that seemed 'reasonable' for the time. I could imagine it being a society-wide Emperor's New Clothes situation... But the current troon explosion made me wonder if it's enough for society to rethink the whole framework regarding transgenderism? Not just the madness of the recent years, but the concept of trans itself?

I really just hope this shit will blow over than fizzles away in a disappointing whimper. And I never mind people being gender non-conforming, being gay, and I don't mind body modifications. What I mind.. is that state-supported delusion and extra rights for a few people that don't really deserve it.

Why would being distressed enough about your body, sterilising yourself and dressing in clothes normally ascribed to opposite gender roles award you special rights others don't have?

Most people reshape their understanding of the past to shape the current orthodoxy being spouted by their communities. Pointing out that transvestism was a separate thing 30 years ago, that even 10 years ago the current trans movement would be utterly incomprehensible to trans activists, that Sylvia Reviera specifically did not have bottom surgery and advocated for nothing close to the current troonacy defended by the foundation bearing that name, doesn't get a response. Troonism existed originally as a response to rigid gender roles, as did drag queens/kings and all the gender fuck stuff, which has been the case of third gender categories historically and across cultures. It became a commodified identity, a new market to sell to, which is literally bringing back and reinforcing gender stereotypes, and people have retroactively projected back the current understanding across movements and people who would denounce what exists today.


One of the most maddening things about knowing even recent history is just watching people automatically distort and forget things to suit the moment. George Orwell was wrong about thought control, and the Russians tried way too hard to erase Trotsky. All the needed to do was declare him problematic and 5 years later no one would have remembered him anyway.
