Digi has a new podcast, With the Yggers
Hosted on Riley's channel
r.PNG

Gotta say, It's quite impressive how Digi finds new ways to have an even smaller audience.

The whole "Housecleaning" part of the video [5:24-7:48] (called "Housekeeping" in the video description and timestamp) is worth an archive, as it talks about his creative output recently and currently ongoing, as well as the aforementioned explanation of why Riley has left Ygg Studio and cancellation of the Voidgazers series:
What Is The Best-Looking Anime-Xmo Xjhd4jc-1.mp4
Archived (720p) from: "What Is The Best-Looking Anime?", 5,929 views, Premiered Feb 10, 2022.

As for the main content of the video, "What Is The Best-Looking Anime?", it's a very good release from Digi, probably the best we have seen from him since at least 2019, certainly in years. I like his use of a green(?) towel as an improvised green screen behind his shoulder that only takes up a corner of the video; it's a good way to show the relevant anime being discussed without being hit with a copyright strike. It's great to hear him discuss anime informatively and somewhat passionately again, though it's far from the Digi who really gave a shit (to a point that he was clearly frustrated with the anime industry) about anime as a medium.
Jesus, is Digi even trying to pass? He looks like Cody Ko dressed up as someone's middle-aged wine aunt for Halloween.

Going through Digi's projects is like opening a nesting doll, each subsequent iteration is smaller than the last.

I remember him looking like a serial killer back during his Digibro After Dark days. I guess he literally does not give a shit about what he looks like to most people.

I think he's given up on his woman phase and is back to being a basement dweller otaku, this time without the beard and worse clothing choices.
You forgot to mention that his anime analysis content has been really dry and devoid of emotion since realizing what worked. His video about manga adaptations feels empty, like he's being held at gunpoint to do this stuff, and is just reading the lines he's been given. Except, he wrote those lines, and is likely pointing the gun at himself to get some cash to further fuel his drug habits.

Digi enters the Ric Flair arc where he just needs money.

The digital boy finally got himself a "real job" where he can be miserable doing pointless shit and serving others for roughly a third of the day like most of humanity.

This is what I noticed myself. Speaking from personal experience, he seems to indeed lack the money to keep his preferred level of high. One of the number one side-effects of kicking weed (I'm not implying he's all out quiting, he probably just doesn't have enough money to 420/27 atm) is feeling a lack of engagement. Nothing seems fun anymore, as it was so much more "interesting" and "fun" when high.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. If he just kept up a normal "high on weekends" routine he wouldn't need that much money, nor would have to go through heavy withdrawl and tolerance breaks. Not that the words "weekend" and "tolerance break" are in his vocab.

Like everything in his life, Digi's effort is only as little as necessary to get the approval of those around him, that's how mommy raised him, he's her special little boy girl who can't do no wrong.

So, all he needs is for his faggot boyfriend to tell him he looks like a woman when he rails his ass doggy style and he figures that's exactly as much effort as he needs to put into that, don't even need to shave as long as his beard doesn't stick out further than his lanky hair.

With all the Trash Taste talk, I'm thinking there's room for a Trash Taste or J-Vlog General thread on Multimedia. Good idea or not?
Helps that most successful ones also had some achievement in other jobs. Best Guy Ever was/is a programmer, Gigguk worked for the BBC, and SuperEyepatchWolf was some kind of media/visual designer (I don't remember exactly but the point is it was skilled work). The Anime Man went hard on YouTube, but did so in a way which gave them skills and connections similar to those you would get in legacy media.
The Anime Man got a degree in Creative Arts and is a musican on the side, IIRC.

But you are right, having other life skills can make an Internet personality lolcow-resistent (not lolcow-proof). Look at the other people in the subforum, and notice now they all have no skills beside being a fucking nuance on YouTube.

Sad isn't it? Digi is probably the example how my life would have been would I have majorly indulged into mediocre shows only to pick them apart, all the while wondering why I'm doing this. Instead I took the opposite approach. I used others to inform me and my own tastes to see what shows are worthwhile.

Have I watched shows that were total dog dodoo? Sure. Did I enjoy them? Sure. Would I make a video or rewatch them? Nah.

Anime is just another hobby. Digi did his due. If you don't feel like watching [current season show] you might as well just pass - and give that income to older YTers. That's what I meant with "shooting yourself in the foot". Even Nate is doing better and being more into the current Zeitgeist than Digi and he's not an example either. Nate never antagonized his viewers though. If you don't have a following you can't cover your expenses without doing current anime. A half-half would work. But not what Digi is doing ATM. He was riding on clout. He lost his following. Becoming an anituber once again is really hard when there are a ton of people disliking you. You need that "something" that "je ne sais pas" - Digi's role has played out.

And I don't want him back.

Digi's role has played out.
This is true in a lot of ways, but one of the most important is that Digi had an almost exclusive claim to being the hardcore otaku of YouTube. He attracted fans who wanted to feel like they were a more authentic type of consumer than someone who only liked the big channels. He was just a bit older than most of his audience and got super into anime when the internet was young and only hyper-passionate Westerners knew about most of the shows which had been huge in Japan.

At this point Digi has covered enough seasonal anime that it makes up a decent portion of his total content. He's not the crochety boomer anymore; he's just old. It's also harder for him to be a gatekeeper for Zoomers because to them anime is not divided into pre- and post-Toonami. It's current seasonals vs. everything else. Digi's vendetta with SAO would be hard to even explain to someone who grew up with easy access to any show they wanted.

Anime Alphabet has some variety, but it's mostly shows which were beloved when Digi was a kid or young teenager. He is dating himself, but not in a way which will earn him any credibility. Nobody is going to feel like a "real fan" because they know about fucking Cardcaptor Sakura.

February numbers are out.

Earnings are going down again. Another change in trend, consolidation, or just a fluctuation? We'll see.

Month# of PatreonsMoney ($)Happenings / My interpretation
March 2021365 (-49)1,020 (-180)Conrad refuses to release his Radcon lecture. Complaints by the Radcon backers are answered by Conrad with insults on the dedicated discord. Ben and Gibb side with the backers. This finally escalates into Conrad cutting his ties with the Procrastinators and with Ben Saint in particular, calling him an "asshole" and "incorrigible cunt" on twitter.

Ethan Ralph and Amanda fight with Conrad's flatmates when they arrive to retrieve some of Amanda's belongings. This is filmed by Conrad and put on youtube, spiced up with insults against both. Conrad now accuses Amanda of having cheated on him with Ralph before the breakup.
April306 (-59)845 (-175)Conrad ragequits KHANTEHNT or "allows Nate to fire him" as he puts it. KHANTEHNT goes on a hiatus and the revenue takes a hit. The yggers go on a road trip in an RV ... or so they claim/strongly hint at. Nobody has seen the RV however and in all probability it does not exist.
May290 (-16)830 (-15)Nothing out of the ordinary. Nate announces he has stopped charging for KHANTEHNT.
June261 (-29 )708 (-122)Communication of anything of substance has dropped to a minimum. Apparently, Conrad and his boyfriend have taken shelter at Conrad's mother's house after the loss of his home in Virginia Beach and a homeless arc. Rumors of the Yggers having split up.
July248 (-13)667 (-41)Conrad dabbles in anime videos again.
August229 (-19)605 (-62)According to Ben Saint, Munchy claims that Conrad now receives an allowance from his mother, hits bongs all day and is unable to hold a conversation.
September213 (-16)558 (-47)Conrad is on a road trip again. His latest attempt at anime content has been on hiatus for over a month.
October198 (-15)534 (-24)Conrad gets engaged to Bird, a fiancee Ralph won't manage to impregnate. On "Who are these Podcasts" Conrad shittalks PCP hosts Ben and Gibb. This backfires as neither his twitter nor the WATP fanbased is amused. Gibb is pissed. Conrad now uploads short tiktok format anime reviews on youtube.
November201 (+3)558 (+24)Nothing out of the ordinary.
December205 (+4)596 (+38 )Nothing out of the ordinary.
January 2022211 (+6)626 (+30)Ygger breakup as Conrad and Riley part ways. In a video, Conrad once again explains his history as he wants it to be seen. Ben Saint releases The Pleep & The Weeb blu-rays 5 years after they were promised and Conrad was paid for them. In his video, Conrad is angry and claiming he is just in the process of making them by himself.
February211 (+/-0)603 (-23)Nothing out of the ordinary.

Reminder that I'm planning to do this until the end of this year even it this will be the last 10 posts ever made in this thread.

Here is 2020 in full and 2021 in full.

I have to hand it to him though, in retrospect it’s kind of amazing he managed to make a living off anitube for three, possibly four years before he started openly complaining about the workload on various After Dark vids and retreating inwards to May and progressively stronger drugs. The same person you see before you now would attempt full-time anitube for two months and just give up when their videos didn’t get kissed by the algorithm.

The difference is that the conrad of today is 30 and desperate for money and the old Digibro did it for fun and it ended up making him money.
