They just keep going and going and going, it's absolutely hilarious lol
But what the fuck is a sensitivity reader? I don't know shit about writing, is this someone you pay to read your book and tell you if it's troon-friendly enough?
Is this... Real?
Sensitivity readers are real things in the editing world, and have been for a lot longer than troonism has been en vogue. It's an editor that goes through and nixes the part where, for example, the writer goes on an anti-Semitic tangent or the like. It's supposed to save companies the headache of exactly the above, but it sort of assumes that the criticism of books is being done in good faith, which just isn't possible with troon-centreted critique because troonism is so self-contradictory there's no way to be respectful about it.
That being said, I do find it funny that they focus on this book, because:
Honestly the book premise is still of dumb. Like women aren't nicer than men. I'm kind of tired of this rhetoric that treats women as constantly vulnerable, but kind and understanding angels. This weird infantilzation and glorifcation of womanhood from troons and even terfs makes me feel off.
Like I know we're weaker than most full grown men, but that dosent make us any less capable in evil.
Like they are only ok with demonizing white women and lesbians.
The notional idea of critiques of stories as harmful is supposed to come from an idea of power relations in a society. The reason why you don't want people reading the Protocols of the Elders of Zion or something like that is because anti-Semitism still has the possibility of inspiring violence, and there's an assumed power asymmetry between the groups. It's supposed to be about making sure people aren't dehumanized. But the concern trolls don't give a shit that all the gay men in that story are killed too, or sexual abuse survivors or black men or any other group of otherwise cis males who are marginalized or othered in society, not to mention all the presumably innocent little boys who get killed either. It's a book premised on things getting instantly better when half of humanity is eliminated, and the only critique these idiots can level is "what about my feeeeeliinnnnnnnnngssssss". Not "that's a stupid premise and reflects a dumb, childish worldview". Personally, i don't think a stupid premise is enough to get a book cancelled, as a rule I'm against censorship of works, but if you're going to try and critique this book on something, "what about the transwymyns" is about the most narrow, narcissistic way of doing it.
Incidentally, the tv show that troons REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE'D about recently, Y the Last Man, was trash, but it was based on a good comic series that was like playing through a thought experiment. When all the men die, Australia rules the seas, because they have by far the most female navy officers per capita. Israel and the Nordic countries become military powerhouses, because of universal service. There's a huge debate about whether the species should just end, or whether there should be enormous research starting to figure out how to keep reproduction going. That's the interesting part of the premise.
It sort of relates to this, too:
Why does it matter that transwomen can't leave? Is it ok that men can't leave? Is that rule fair? These transwomen are being targeted
as men by a government that is telling them they need to stay and risk their lives. Men are unable to escape this conflict, including non-citizens like international students. This is one of the few cases where it is in fact, women that have the privilege/advantage, due to cultural notions of masculinity. And the woke response is "what about misgendering"? Not "why should only men be forced to stay and die, why shouldn't it be able bodied people, with children and the weak and infirm being evacuated?". If you're concerned about the 22 year old trans women on the border, but not the 18 year old cis dude who's about to get crushed by a tank manning a barricade in Kyiv, then what use is all your rhetoric about equality and justice? I'm not seeing anyone demanding trans-men go volunteer or stay behind either, no ones pushing for them to take up this masculine duty. This shit really makes me MATI, because it really does show that wokism has degenerated these arguments to the point where it's no longer "we are all equally human and deserve equal respect", it's "your humanity is determined by your position on the oppression pyramid, and cis male lives are disposable".
